GRADE 2 KIDZ...

OH KAY! IT lookz like i maybe goin 2 help my cousin out with her Grade Two kidz, as they will be explorin music! So I am coming in as her guest 2 kinda show them some stuff with keyboardz and sing and i'll bring my djembe- let'z see!

What im tryin 2 think is- what are MOST grade twoz like these dayz. I'm thinkin...i could show em da basicz, and then have some fun and like maybe turn a pop song they'll probably all be in2, change da lyricz 2 be funny/educational- depending on what my cousin thinkz...but im stuck on what songz they'd wanna hear. lol

I mean when i was in Grade Two- da last thing i wanted 2 hear was some corny nusery rhyme song lol - they were okay if they had actionz, but they just weren't exciting enough 2 me. And i wanna excite da kidz!!

So...any tunez come 2 mind anyone here?

Lemme knowz.

wave hope y'all are havin a good onez!

i would ask them what music they are interested in ... you cant teach unless the student has true interest ... plus great fule for learning is empowering the student ...CHOICE is a great form of that

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown

I'm not sure how old Grade 2 kids are by you so...

For younger kids I'd play them a kid song ( each of us is a flower is a fav of the kids I know) and have them make instruments of their own,( you can use a water bottle and some rice or beans to make a nifty little percussion instrument) and then play the song again and have them "play" along with you.
That lesson would take about an hour, if you move really fast. For a shorter lesson you can make the instruments yourself ahead of time.

For older kids (10 or older) I'd start the lesson talking about top 40 music like Alicia Keys or Beyonce and then play them some older music like Stevie Wonder or Aretha Franklin to show them where today's music came from. This type of lesson could take 30 - 45 min.

I think it's really important for children to be exposed to the arts and I try to do so in my own classroom at every chance I get. I applaud what you are doing.

The only thing I can really stress is that before you start the lesson lay down some ground rules. When kids see a new face they really tend to go nuts

Good luck and have fun!

Wow, thankz for your advice Sweeny, i'm takin it all in!! Grade two kidz here are usually between 7 and 8 yearz of age nod Actually all the kindz of lessonz you've mentioned each bring back a memory from different yearz of primary school, so datz definitely a good hint! thumbs up! I'll double check with my cousin- cause all she mentioned is 'they're just grade two kidz' but to me that could mean anything- i know when i was a kid anything 2 do with music- especially if an instrument came in2 play- i would get really excited!!

Well, I cant'wait for this lesson 2 happen, i reckon it'z gonna be fun!! biggrin cool

Thankz again 4 the advice!! biggrin biggrin
