REDFEATHERS

Penpals

Does anyone here have any penpals?

When I was at school I can remember you could get a list of penpals, from all over the world and you could choose one for 10p.. and if your requests matched up, penpals from all over the world would write to you.

Now I didnt want a penpal, cos alot of my friends were at boarding school and others were outside of the UK, so I had pelnty of friends to write to anyway.

However, I got a letter from a boy in Italy -totally out of the blue, and we started writing to each other. phoning each other up and sending presents.

I think my friend got me a penpal secretly. I still do not know to this day how it happened, but we have been writing to each other for 20 years now, and still not met each other.

There have been times, we came close to meeting, but circumstances stopped us.

Did you have penpals as a child, and do you still keep in touch?

I am not talking about writing to Orgers you havent met.. I mean non-Org penpals.. big grin

We also had this system at school. However, I think no one from another country put 'Belgium' on his piece of paper. I always wanted to have Italian or South-American penpals, but they were always from Asia.

I've been writing letters with a Malaysian girl and a girl from Nepal. They were both very kind, but the Malaysian girl annoyed me. I remember she kept on asking me questions like 'which Backstreet-boy is the most beautiful'. I replied I liked none of them, and she said Nick was her favourite, or Jason from Take That, or whatever. She was very kind though, sending me presents. But we just never talked about anything substantial, in my opinion that is.

With the Nepalese girl I had the same problem. She's a bit younger than me. However, we were able to have a closer contact after some time. She's studying in the States right now and it seems like she's turning into an American, very strange.

Since two years we only talk on smn. The romanticism of letters got lost. I never saw her.

I have pen pal and we have been in contact for the last 20 years
It started with a friend giving me her address saying you should write to her because of our common love for Duran Duran.
I have spoken to her three times on the phone and we send each other gifts for birthdays and christmas
We have not met, but i would love to. I consider her one of my great friends.
WHY SHOULD I DO THAT, WHEN I CAN DO THIS

I had a pen pal from Turkey when I was a teenager.

We met, and what a wonderful person she is.
