Find comments about your old profs/teachers (bad and good) on here, and post 'em. Here's one of mine: Jen-Shih Chang: Worst educator ever, anywhere. Atrocious use of the english language, and his notes give you the eqns without even telling you what the variables mean. Quote: "the isotropiciriged of turbulent will be decreases of the Reynolds stress" - I actually remember that damn line. We were laughing about it for days. absolutely terrible. can't understand a word he says. there's no textbook, just a courseware written in "Changlish". This class is all about wicked throw. He wrote the courseware, and at lectures reads out of it, so lectures are rather useless. The courseware, well, you can read the words, but they aren't in any particular order.... Glad Low=Grad Ro...Sick Wicked=Thick Liquid, remember that! His tests are decent, the final is a joke...he recycles a lot! It took me two months of lectures to know that likid = liquid (thats a problem coz its a Fluid mechanics course), not approachable unless u call in advance. Always working with Ford! Recycles tests since 15 years. [Edited 7/11/05 15:27pm]

Although I do realize the importance of clear communication in an academic setting... it's not cool to make fun of someone because of their English.

There's nothing better to do when you're stuck in a lecture you're paying $5000/year for and they've given you someone who doesn't speak the language. It's not so much making fun of him as commiserating about our plight. [Edited 7/11/05 17:26pm]

I agree that it's frustrating - I have been in that situation more than once. But if you were that concerned you could have always taken it up with the department, or talked to your TA or the professor himself. It's a valid concern - not being able to understand what is said in class. English in particular is a terribly difficult language to master. I feel for any and all non-native speakers, but give them major props for taking the initiative in the first place. Imagine being in front of a classroom with hundreds of students in front of you, lecturing in a second language that you are probably not too comfortable with in the first place! I wish we could do that and get somewhere - he'd been teaching for 5 years, and there have been many complaints sent to the department (he is not teaching it next year, ironically enough). Only several profs have ever actually been fired from a course here But you'll encounter similar situations at every university. Frustrating. And you couldn't talk to him about it - it was hard enough finding him for course-related help.

I just looked up the rating for our very own Professor 2the9s.
This is the last entry: idiot! I kid you not! When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

The department looked over them and used them in times of need for promotions, demotions, etc. The professor also read them after giving out grades and would hopefully change their teaching methods and classes accordingly! Hopefully the professor would not be fired (unless they were REALLY awful and it was more than just a language issue) and maybe supplemental notes of the lectures would be provided. Or something. It's too bad he was never around to talk about it. Anyway I'm glad we got this cleared up. Carry on! Here's my contribution: Anthony Chennells Department: Literature If you ever wanted to know what a Zimbabwean accent sounds like, this is the teacher for you. I mean, like, where is the sun?

Yeah, here's one of the profs who got fired. On our prof evaluations, Chang got a median rating of 5/7 (his course was really easy, so that helped). Ms. Donna Goldhawk got 1/7 (and there's no 0) the first prof in the history of the university to do so "lets recap the recap of last weeks recap".....All she does is recap cuz she has no ****ing clue what she is talking about when it comes to genetics....worst professor ever.....she can't even answer her own questions.....WILD....who ever hired her was on crack. Has no clue... It's supposed to be a course on genetic engineering, we haven't done any of that yet (and it's March). Ask her a question, and she'll answer without actually answering. Leaves you there, thinking "WTF??" Real piece of work, this one is & an insult to our intelligence on top of it all. This is a 4th year course and I feel like I'm in kindergarten all over again. Knows nothing about the course and the elusive answers to any questions that are asked just kill me! What a shamebag! She needs out! This class is a joke, she doesnt know anything about genetics. How she got hired? A mystery to me! The midterm was unfair. If I was unimpressed with this prof before, this last email she sent out just took that rating down a notch. She expects us to know stuff from other classes, but she doesn’t even know what was taught in those classes. If you want to keep your GPA up, avoid this prof! By far the worst prof and course of my undegrad career...she has absolutely no clue about the minimal info she has attempted to teach...genuinely mean-spirited, baltently unfair, and completely incompetent...has absolutely no business teaching, especially at the university level Not to sound repetitive but worst class i have ever taken. Conduct, knowledge and enthusiams towards this course was horrible. Also to add I heard she lost some of the final exams for this class! check your marks!! [Edited 7/11/05 17:56pm] Here you can actually see how the kids rated her: http://www.uwo.ca/ipb/eva.../3242.html [Edited 7/11/05 17:59pm]
