Screw It, I'm Goin' To Go See "War Of The Worlds" Right Now... *thumbsup*

The last 7 days have been...rough in my family, to say the least. confused So I'm taking an extra long "lunch break" and hitting a movie (saintsation's thread put the idea in my head).

If Tom Cruise yells out that he's in love during the movie, tho, I'm throwing my shoe at the screen.

After what Tom has pulled in the media, I don't like him as a person or an actor.

He's certainly doing his best to re-make himself into the new Michael Jackson! Weirdo interviews, crazed rants, overly ridiculous proclamations of love for a woman that he really doesn't seem the least bit sincere about. How long until his nose falls off?

Just got back...returned home with both shoes on, so the screen was not pelted with shoes for any reason. thumbs up!

As for the movie (no spoilers):

Great special effects...you'll swear it's really happening, it's that believable.

Story--ordinary. Not bad, not great...some logic holes, but they aren't huge or distracting (after the first "lightning strikes", everything stops working...all electricity, cars, cell phones...even wristwatches. However, apparently camcorders are still good to go cuz there are people videotaping the alien "tripods"...lol)

The action is pretty intense...which I like. And it's loud...which I'm not crazy about, but it fits here.

Tom Cruise--your average Cruise performance. The movie makes it pretty easy to forget all the Oprah couch-jumping and stuff...

Ending--Eh. Supposed to be profound, but it was kind of a letdown to me.

I needed a few hours like that, I think...*sigh*..thanks for the comments and well wishes, everyone... rose

I didn't want to see it until I read the review in this morning's paper which said the special effects were awesome. Now I'm rethinking

saw it tonight...thought it was a decent flick--pretty intense for pg-13 (if anybody's taking the youngsters)...as far as alien invasion movies go, i thought independence day had more action and devastation, WOTW has a better script/storyboard. it's kinda like watching titanic or saving private ryan with aliens.(that look a lot lilke the ones in ID4)..lots of mass hysteria, destruction...the last 4 minutes are kinda contrived and mushy, but this is one flick i can't wait to put on the ole' 60" hdtv in about 6 months.

8.5 out of 10
