Special Order License Plates

Does anybody have a special order or "vanity" plate for your car, you know, one that you have specially ordered with a certain word or word/numbers on it? I know some of ya'll probably have a plate that says "Prince" or "NPG319" on it or something like that. If so, please feel free to share. smile

A good friend of mine used to have a plate, about 10 or 12 years ago, that read "17 Days" on it (pretty cool!). I remember her telling me that she paid like $75 per year for it; I'm sure the price is more like $100 or greater now. omg Back when the "Exodus" CD came out, I wanted to get a vanity plate that said "Exodus" on it, but didn't because of the price. Didn't want to spend the money on it, since there were other more important things to spend my hard-earned cash on.

LOL - I was going to name this thread "vanity plates", but didn't for fear that people would think that I was referring to Prince's former girlfriend. lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

A little off topic, the last time I was in Las Vegas, this guy was riding a motorcycle. He was on it by himself so you could see the back of his t-shirt which read..."If you can read this, the bitch fell off." I couldn't help but think that, that shirt was a TOTAL CHICK MAGNET.

I don't own a car these days, but I've had the following vanity plates:

  • M W C (my initials)
  • A plate number that doesn't "mean" anything, but has special significance to me. Like the standard plates issued by many states, it was three digits followed by three letters. It was recognizable as a vanity plate, though, because the state where I was living then (Indiana) uses a totally different number format. If I tried to get that plate here in Washington state, they'd reject my request because it'd be in the same format as a standard plate. In fact, given the state's scheme for issuing plate numbers, they've almost certainly issued the same number to someone else. sad

When I inquired about getting a "vanity plate" at an Indiana BMV office, the first two employees had no idea what I was talking about, and they had to get a supervisor. confuse Apparently the official term there is "Personalized License Plate."

The people of Indiana actually chose that ugly design via a statewide contest and subsequent vote. disbelief Even the guy who created the plate doesn't like it because after it was declared the winner, they replaced the phrase "Back Home Again" (done in a handwriting-style typeface) with the "www.IN.gov."

(BTW, the font for the number is now slightly different from that shown in the pic... police were complaining that they were having trouble reading plate numbers.)

I suppose it could be worse. Back in the 1980s, the state came up with this brilliant creation:

People hated the "Wander Indiana" plate so much there was an effort to recall it... I believe there was at least one bill introduced in the state legislature for that purpose.

I personally liked this plate design, and was sad when I had to replace it:
