COMPUTER HELP PLEASE!!!

From last Friday untill Tuesday evening I have been offline due 2 a virus, which resulted in a computer tech guy having 2 resinstall my Windows system and me having 2 start from scratch again!! Anyway, when I got my computer back and my Broadband ISP was installed again everything was fine, but then on Wednesday morning when I went 2 log on I get a grey box coming up with "A required DLL file. MSVCP60.DLL was not found" on it. So I click OK, then I click on the Internet Explorer icon in my Quick Launch bar and no Explorer window comes up, then about 10 - 15 minutes later it suddenly appears!!!

Can anyone give me advice on what I can do myself, rather than calling out this tech guy again?? Or is this something for the experts??

Thanks guys!!!

Try downloading and running Spybot Search And Destroy and Ad-adware. You may have some trojans and adware running in addition to virus causing havoc with your system.

Go to another machine with a CD Burner. Download and burn these apps:

CWShredder Stand Alone
http://www.trendmicro.com...redder.exe

Spybot
http://www.download.com/S...dl&tag=but

Spybot Updates
http://www.spybotupdates....cludes.exe

http://www.spybotupdates....vcheck.exe

Avast Virus Cleaner
http://files.avast.com/fi...swclnr.exe

Avast Anti-Virus Home Edition (Important! You must register and get an activation code! This is all for FREE. When at the machine you download from, register using a Yahoo or MSN/Hotmail or some other online account so you can access your registration code)
http://files.avast.com/ia...tupeng.exe

Avast Updates
http://files.avast.com/ia...vpsupd.exe

HijackThis (This is a last resort tool. ONLY USE IF YOU'RE A TECHIE!)
http://www.spywareinfo.co...ckthis.zip

Step 2:

Boot your computer in SAFE MODE

Step 3:

Run the CWShredder app

Step 4:

Start by installing Spybot. DO NOT run right away. After install, close it out and then run the updates. Then run an IMMUNIZE, then a full scan and fix.

Step 5:
Run the Avast Virus Cleaner. Then install Avast Home Edition. Then install the Avast Updates. Enter your registration code. Run a full Avast scan.

Step 6:
If you're still having problems, run HijackThis. Please do reasearch on this app before you use it as you can delete out files that might be important.

Another thing: If you need quick online access, have a broadband connection, and you have a PC with a CD-ROM, look into using something like Knoppix or Feather Linux. It's great to have in an emergancy. You put in the CD, turn on your PC, boot from CD, enter some starting codes, get online.

Knoppix

or

Feather Linux

Anything like that, I usually find it helps to just simply look on google or whatever. Just type in the name of the dll and 'error message' and read a few of the result sites, you may read one that explains your particular message and will certainly find links to downloads of missing items.

CWShredder, Spybot, and Ad-Adaware have never failed me. However, it best that you consult a tech before messing with Hi-jack This. There are a couple free tech website which will guide you on how to utilize the tool effectively if you're not computer geek savy like some of us on the org.

Why do you think i will be happy? Why do you think i care?
At best i think its funny that you manage to get a virus and 1000 items of spyware onto your PC and only realise it when the thing crashes. I'm also embarrassed for you, that you air you dirty linen in public like this! But happy? definately not. I'll be happy when your PC dies for good.

To be honest I'd prefer it if your computer just died then we might not have to put up with the bile that spews from your rancid innards day in and day out.
