havent seen them but from what i understand, Dead Man (or whatever from Johhny Depp) would qualify as an ugly white person film...

mr.green

It sounds like you might hate them. God, I love his movies:

Stranger Than Paradise
Down By Law
Mystery Train
Night On Earth
Dead Man
Ghost Dog

nod

His new one, Coffee and Cigarettes, is coming out this month I think. dancing jig woot!

you know who does ugly white people movies right?

Atom Egoyan

I loved The Sweet Here After and Exotica...

Ugly inside, yes. I'm not a huge fan of his work. I think my favorite was The Adjuster.

I LOVED it! But I like his non-violent ones better. My favorites are Mystery Train and Dead Man (though that has moments of violence too).

Or a movie forum would be great. I always comb through the GD threads for movie topics. Recently, I saw a pretty good film:

Me You and Everyone We Know

uh-oh, that might qualify as an UWP film. Um, yeah, I definitely think it does. boxed

Let me know what you think, if you see it. It actually is very fun to sit through, with a magical, playful quality.

I loved "Rushmore" and "Lost In Translation", although I'd like to see Bill do more light stuff. Now PT Anderson...hells no! I liked "Sideways" a lot even though the people I was watching it with thought it had too much talking and only liked the slapstick parts. I liked the entire movie! Paul Giamatti was superb and I hope he continues to do more fine work like this.

oohh...thats funny...

NO..no i am not talking about independent film...im talking about a subgenre of independent film...

for the record, some of my fav films?

Eve's Bayou
Talk To Her
Hotel Rhowanda
Mulholand Dr
Woman On The Verge Of A Nervous Break Down
West Side Story
In The Bedroom

so you see, indie films dont have to star white people.....or beautiful people....

but thanks for trying to slam me...

rolleyes

(damn...this site sometimes...people always trying to cut someone down...silly ass shit...)

I'm not trying to slam you, but still not clear on what makes it a subgenre. Scarlett Johanssen is anything but ugly, in my opinion. Wouldn't In The Bedroom qualify as an UWP movie?

By the way, Mullholland Drive is one of my top all-time favorites too.

I think he also means "ugly" as in "whinny"! Too an extent, those movies are like that. I saw the most pretenious "white" movie ever not too long ago. I watch so many rentals lately, I wish I could remember it to warn people...

So you are one of those "Ghost Dog" people. I was so hyped to see that movie but it was just waaay too slow! Not a bad movie, but I had higher expectations (and I made the mistake of watching it with friends who were not feeling it at all!).

Time Of The Wolf

Its about a post-apocalyptic France and how a family scavanges to survive...really interesting.

eek I just watched it tonight! It takes a while to get going - and the montages are too cheesy - but it's worth the wait.

Be sure to watch About Schmidt if you do end up liking it. That one's at least as good, if not better.

Sideways is easily one of the worst movies I ever saw. There is nothing likeable in the characters, but I also can't muster up enough feeling to really dislike or hate them. I surprised myself that I even made it all the way through this movie.

Yeah I didn't like it either...the previews for this movie were very misleading. But something kept me watching it for some weird reason. Normally I'd just fall asleep or turn it off confuse

The funniest part was when the friend got caught boinking the dumpy waitress by her husband. Then when they had to get his wallet back. Oh wait, maybe when he got smashed in the face with a helmet! wink
