Will I like "Sideways"?

I got the DVD in the mail today, debating on whether I want to watch it or not tonight...

you, of all people, will deeply enjoy "sideways".

in fact, i think it may be loosely based on you.

Okay, I'm going to watch it. I think I'll also get drunk off of Merlot (even though that's not the drink of choice in the movie - isn't it Pinot Noir?)

i hate ugly white people movies

(rushmore, lost in translation, pt anderson films)...

but i actually enjoyed this one....

and when i say ugly white people i dont mean i hate ugly white people...i just cant relate to ugly white people's stories.....there's no commonality there for me....and thats just a cute lil name i have for them.....

and there exceptions to this rule of mine...this film being a perfect example..i was pleasantly suprised at how funny and interesting this movie was....

those are called independent films which often are meant reflect regular people's lives outside of the hollywood dominated star system. But I suppose you have more in common with the likes of Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, Angela Jolie and Brad Pitt? i guess you favor "beautiful white people movies".

oohh...thats funny...

NO..no i am not talking about independent film...im talking about a subgenre of independent film...

for the record, some of my fav films?

Eve's Bayou
Talk To Her
Hotel Rhowanda
Mulholand Dr
Woman On The Verge Of A Nervous Break Down
West Side Story
In The Bedroom

so you see, indie films dont have to star white people.....or beautiful people....

but thanks for trying to slam me...

I'm not trying to slam you, but still not clear on what makes it a subgenre. Scarlett Johanssen is anything but ugly, in my opinion. Wouldn't In The Bedroom qualify as an UWP movie?

By the way, Mullholland Drive is one of my top all-time favorites too.

I understand what you're saying. And I know you, so I know you're neither racist nor hateful. But if you're gonna use the term "ugly white people movies", you gotta expect some backlash.

That said, Sideways didn't work for me because I saw it as a "middle aged white guy movie." The performances were solid, it was clever, and definitely good, but I thought it was horrendously overhyped. It just wasn't all that.

I feel compelled to question your comments, sosgemini, not as a personal attack, but because physical beauty is so extremely overvalued in this society, especially in film. I actually find it refreshing when non-beautiful people, non-movie stars, non-famous people appear in films and I wish there were more of them.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies as well. It's also my favorite soundtrack, along with HAIR. Incredible songs, incredible choreography.

I don't think he's using ugly as a comment on the physical appearance, but as a comment on who the characters in these movies are.

i thought this would diffuse any seriousness from my comments folks:

and thats just a cute lil name i have for them.....

its not that deep.....

and yes, In The Bedroom had ugly people in it but it had an engrossing story.....

im mainly talking about lil slice of life barely visible plotline films...one's with no artistic flare.....boring passing and boring cinematography and boring editing.....

should i call them american ingrid bergman films instead of "ugly white people movies"?

it doesnt sound as cute though.. confused

Now, if he said "unhappy white people" that makes more sense to me.
