Angelina Jolie adopts Ethiopian Baby

http://news.yahoo.com/s/n...e_jolie_dc

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Angelina Jolie is adopting a newborn Ethiopian girl orphaned by AIDS, People magazine reported on Tuesday.

Jolie, who has toured the world as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations' High Commissioner on Refugees, said the baby would be named Zahara Marley Jolie but would not reveal the child's age, height or weight, People said.

The magazine had no further information on the baby's health but said she had been left an orphan by AIDS.

Jolie, 30, told People that she and her son Maddox, 3, who she adopted from a Cambodian orphanage, were "very happy to have a new addition to our family."

Arrangements for the adoption were expected to be completed Wednesday.

"Angie's over the moon," a source close to the actress told People. "It's a dream come true. She's always wanted to extend her family."

Jolie has been romantically linked with Brad Pitt, her "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" co-star, but the source denied they were planning a family.

"Angelina's adopting as a single mother and she wants that emphasized," the source told People.

The twice-divorced Jolie has often talked of adopting a second child. After a trip to Ethiopia earlier this year, Jolie said of Maddox: "My son is in love with Africa, so he has been asking for an African brother or sister."

I just read that on Google.

When I heard she'd been shopping for baby clothes, I joined in the hopes that she'd be having a baby with Brad Pitt.

(I'm not an Aniston loyalist. Angie rocks!)

But this isgreat too.

In a way, I'm glad she's doing it without Pitt because that just proves how independent she is.

I'm wondering if the child has HIV. If so, that's going to be a rocky road

Yeah, that would've been really great.

Two Hollywood actors with known commitment issues having a child out of wedlock, and after having only been together publically as a couple (well, sort of together publically. it's strongly suspected they're a couple now, but neither one has actually come out and admitted that they're "together") for not even one year!

What a completely stable, perfect scenario in which to bring up a kid!

I don't think Angelina being a single parent is an issue. Through her ups and downs she's proven that her child comes first. A second child is great. I think they are her foundation. There are lots of single parents doing a great job.

I dotn think her being a single parent has any reference to this either... Being a single parent i think esepcially here in the US usually references to $$.. raising children on one salary in this day and age is tough.. with one child, esepcailly 2...

I am glad she is getting another child.. She obvisouly worships Maddox.. I am sure she will prove nothing but good out of this child also! Good for her!

How do you know that? All the article says is that it was orphaned from AIDS.

I mentioned it because of what KALEIDESCOPEYE said.

My issue isn't that Angelina is a single mother. She obviously has the money to provide for a child, she appears to be a devoted, loving mother to Maddox.

By accounts I've read she technically adopted Maddox with Billy Bob Thornton, to whom she was still married at the time, but he was less than thrilled with the idea of becoming a parent again. We all know what happened to their marriage. but Angelina has shown she really wanted that child and afaik, I don't think Billy Bob has any interaction with Maddox now or plays father to him in any way, shape, or form.

So fine. Anglina wants to be a single mom and adopt children and raise them alone, I think that's great. She has the resources and she evidently has the desire, the love, and the aptitude to do so.

However, I think it's a whole other ball of wax with lots of other issues, baggage and ramifications when two people - such as Brad and Angelina - decide, after a few short months of being "together" and who both have shown a bad track record of staying in relationships for extended periods - decide to procreate and have a child together. In such a case, then it isn't just Angelina adopting and raising an orphaned child on her own...then it's a situation that involves a mother and biological father who is either going to 1) not be around much, if at all; 2) a bunch of sticky legalities and personal feelings involved; and 3) this little child mixed up into a relationship that fizzles and gets lobbed back and forth, etc etc. (of course, maybe Brad and Angie would be like Bruce and Demi who seem to get along great...but somehow I doubt that a relationship, like B and A's, that's not even 1 year old, producing offspring wouldn't turn out like Bruce and Demi's)

My point is: Angelina adopting a child on her own and being a single parent to is a far different scenario than one of her getting pregnant by a man (in this case of discussion, Brad) with whom she hasn't been with very long, and with whom she mostly probably WON'T *stay with* long term, and with whom she'd forever then have to deal with all regarding the ramifications and implications - legal, personal, and otherwise - of having a biological child.

Babies aren't cute little dolls that people should pop out without a lot of thought and regard to their LONGTERM welfare. Brad and Angie having kids together now, so soon would be stupidity on both their parts.

But some people seem to have the mentality that because Brad and Angie are both so goodlooking, and because AT THE MOMENT they're allegedly "together" (whatever that means to both of them) that it would be "cool" or "cute" if they had a baby together, is immature and shortsighted thinking and not in the best interest of the child that would be created. Involving a child, at this point, that **they'd have to raise together** into their new-ish, unstable relationship would be dumb.

I hope that made my point more clear. It's not Angie adopting an orphan and being a single mom. It's about Angie having a baby with someone she hasn't been with that long and with whom she most likely won't stay with.

How do you know Brad has a problem with long term relationships? All the serious relationships he's had, that I know of, have lasted at least two years. It takes two to make and break a relationship
