So if you HATE something or someone,

aren't you damaging yourself? Hate is such a stong emotion. YOU are the one who's angry and stressed out about the entity. It doesn't affect the thing/person as much as it is affecting you.Si?

I think the great poet and wise man Marilyn Manson once said something along the lines of:

"If you hate someone, you might as well love them. You spend the same amount of time thinking about them."

And it's true. But I still hate, occasionally. I'm on the dark side of the force.
Insatiable taught me everything I know about balls.

Sure, but I'm not the kind of person who can switch my emotions on or off at my command (you seem to imply that we can decide not to feel hate). And to be honest I seriously doubt that anyone can (some might suppress emotions or just completely lack them, but that's a different story). Emotions just happen to us. The only question is how we deal with them. shrug

Jonathan Swift wanted his epitaph to be the following, carved in HUGE block letters:

Ubi Saeva Indignatio
Ulterius
Cor Lacerare Nequit
Abi Viator
Et Imitare Si Poteris
Strenuum Pro Virili
Libertatis Vindicatorem.

Which W.B. Yeats, who called it the greatest epitaph in history, has translated in a poem as:

Swift has sailed into his rest;
Savage indignation there
Cannot lacerate his breast.
Imitate him if you dare,
World-besotted traveller; he
Served human liberty.

nod totally ... it's a very damaging emotion but a very human one.
It's easier not to hate when you view everything around you as part of the same thing, and it's easier not to hate when you allow yourself to open more to the wonders of life. But hate and negativity will always exist. It's necessary in this world unfortunately.

i agree with the marilyn manson quote - more often than not, hate is just love turned on its head. hate takes a lot of energy, and why do people put a lot of energy into things they don't care for? because there's that ONE THING that burns - that ONE THING that, without which, we could love the object of our hate instead of hating them.

so really, yeah - i think hate is just a form of love with a thorn in its paw.

DISDAIN. now THAT'S some potent shit.

as responsible as he was, don't you think that hating hitler would be more of a symbolic act? so many people were complicit in the holocaust - hitler certainly couldn't have caused so much carnage all by his lonesome. i'm not saying that he's not an appropriate or accurate target, but i think "hating hitler" could almost be seen as shorthand for resenting something much larger and more complex.

or i could just be talking right out of my patootie.

Why would it be healthy? They are literally carrying it with them like a ball and chain. I know many jews who actually feel GUILTY about the hate they feel for Hitler. THAT's even worse.

it would be healthy as in any living organism whose existence is arbitrarily threatened by a madman would react in a healthy fashion by hating that madman and everything he stands for.

i think the real key is what one DOES with one's anger/hatred. if one lets it fester and eat away at the soul it's destructive. if one turns that energy toward effecting change for the better it is not destructive

I try not to hate, just dis like if I really feel the need I have to....
Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here

LOL I rarely feel hatred- but when i do- it is alwayz fuelled within reason- and then i try n not think about it. Cause therez nothin worse than wasting energy that could otherwise be used positively- know what im sayin? I mean for what itz worth i like 2 try n make friendz or at least peace wif (in my mind) those who seem 2 hit a nerve in da wrong way with me! OR vice versa. I dont usually piss people off- but you know, you can't alwayz rub everyone up the right way i guess. hmmm

I don't hate people...I could never conceive the idea on hating someone else who may just be going through so many things and thats why they are a major asshole...or slut.

I'll dislike them and their ways...but they are still people. So I'll be the better person and annoy their sorry asses.
