Birth order and how it affected you

I am the youngest of 5. (At one time my parents had 5 kids all under the age of 7 and all of us survived worship)

Being "the baby" had a huge impact on my personality.
I'm spoiled, often self-centered, and...I know this will surprise you...I love attention.

How did your birth order affect you?

i'm the youngest of 3...didn't affect me much, because i didn't grow up with my siblings (they were grown and outta the house by the time i was born).

I'm the oldest and have always been much more independent than my other siblings.

Only child- not the spoiled kind though...

I sometimes wished that I had siblings but my parents fought ALOT and it got pretty bad until my mom and I ran away. Because of those circumstances, I am glad my mom only had me to raise as a single parent.
I grew up around adults so I guess that is why most of my closest friends are many years older then me.
For me, being an only child made me shy, quiet and I have the ability to be alone so I am not needy and I do not require a lot of attention.

Same here, except my siblings are all 10+ years older, so growing up is not something we really share memories of. I'm also different than they are. They shared so many things before I was born. My eldest sister had left home by the time I was 6. Even before that she was hardly ever around.

I'm also not an attention whore like Flesh. Being the baby of the family I got plenty of attention as a kid.

i'm an only child too...well, arguably*...and i'm a spoiled little beetch. mr.green

For me, being an only child made me shy, quiet and I have the ability to be alone so I am not needy and I do not require a lot of attention.

i know that feeling well. with some friends and relationships, people have gone a little nuts around how self-sufficient i am and how i'm able to just sit in a room by myself and keep myself completely content and occupied. i had one roommate who explained to a guy i was dating, "anxy can sit in his room making his little mix tapes and stories with the door shut for three days and not even realize how long he's been in there." well, heh....yeah. lol

* i have a half-brother who was born during a time when i was becoming more and more estranged from my father and my stepmonster. i've been trying to build a relationship with my half-bro this year, but over the years, we've both felt like we were only-child offspring because we were out of touch from each other for so long.

I'm the oldest child and yes, I think it has affected me quite a lot. I was always the one breaking new ground and taking responsibility. It's funny though because my sister has way more "adult points" than I do today, probably because she constantly wanted to prove herself compared to me and strived harder to do "grown-up" things.

i'm the oldest. i don't know how its affected me. lets see...alot of times i dish out alot of advice (or orders lol) to my younger sisters and brother, but i try to keep most of my problems to myself. alot of times i just feel compelled to make sure that things are in order with them. i try to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to do in life. when something happens they call me first, sometimes even before they talk to our mother. but ironically my sister that is 1 year younger than me acts older than me. i'm sillier i think.

I am the youngest of three. The youngest of two, living. The middle child died shortly after his birth.

I wasn't babied all that much, but coming twelve years after their first child gave my parents more of an idea of what to expect and what things they needed to do for me, I think. I was certainly raised quite a bit different than my older brother.

Also, with my brother being twelve years older, it's almost as if I gained a third parent in the mix.

I am, in fact, one of the youngest people in my entire family. IT's a family of old folks.

I am the youngest of 4 AND I'm the only girl.
My mom said she waited for me a long time.

Strangely that position did not spoil me because I'm too strong-willed.

Having no other girls and being younger than the boys, my birth context made me independent-minded and a loner. I like to do most everythign on my own. I hate getting help for stuff.

I probably would get along better with girls if I had sisters. I regret I didn't. I miss not having girlfriends. But all that chit chat that girls do ... I totally can't relate. sad But I love guys!

Although being the youngest and only girl didn't spoil me, it did leave me with a sense that I was special ... which may be partially responsible for my inability to recognize authority. I'm very anti-authority and anti-establishment. My parents saw that I was smart, good, and never got into trouble so they pretty much let me do whatever I wanted. So, I don't like answering to anybody ... which means I've pissed off many a boss, professor, police officer, etc.

Can't tell you the number of jobs I quit because I won't compromise my stance and idyllic pursuit of "principles."
(thankfully, I never got fired .. although I've gotten written up so many times). Don't care. I like being a fiery rebel.

Of course birth order is not the sole determinant of my personality. But I do think it shaped me a little.

Is she more mature though, or is it just the more materialistic/social things she does that make her seem older? My sister has a supersteady boyfriend (with whom she's rented a house in Italy recently), has well-prepared three-course dinners with other couples, sends Christmas cards etc etc...

I'm the oldest of two, but I think the birth order affected me less than the nature of my upbringing itself.

I am the only child lol ...and i dont THINK i have only-child syndrome... hmph! ...but there were timez once when i went on a trip with my extended family...there was over 20 of us...i couldn't hack it man. I had 2 WAIT 2 use the shower...i had yellin goin on when I had a headache...i had 2 lie down..and when i went 2 lie down, my (very cute mind you) little cousins would come and try and play doctor wif me. One tried kicking me confused ...then one started stroking my forehead lol

I guess I ran competitive with my cousins in my mum'z family. I kinda alwayz felt like i was in the middle. I wasnt the first born grandchild/neice...and i wasnt the baby very soon after. So in essence i always felt like i was never the favourite enough...so i kinda kept 2 myself...2 avoid letting it get 2 me and 2 realise 2 myself that I too am special...and then i'd daydream of being a star. cool ...Now what da hell was i talkin bout again? lol

I am the BAAAAABAAAAAY!

I haven't been spoiled much. I haven't been the brat or the family. On the contrary I am the baby out of all the guys in my family. So I have Five male cousins, Two of which are like my big brothers. And my oldest three brothers...who are all there to protect over me. Its pretty cool when I would say to guys I liked....oh yea I'm the baby and I have three brothers and two very over protective cousins, they would freak out and get all shy around my family.

My parents were pretty much the same on me and my brother. I only got a few more things than I wanted that my brother never had...I wanted a graduation party...I got one (he didnt want one when he graduated) and I use to get a lot of teddy bears...thats about it.

Its cool now because now Im 18 and my brother is 27 and we have a lot more in common. I remember being 10 and couldn't go the mall with my brother and cousins and I use to feel left out. Now we all go out and have so much fun. I feel that I'm finally apart of their "coolness" LOL. But other than that Its cool that I'm the baby of the family. My uncle after so many years had two little baby girls...although they are the babies everyone still calls me the baby which is cool LOL...
