I have been proposed to twice.
I didn't accept either propsal because i wasn't in love with either of them in that way.
It would have been selfish of me and unfair to them for me to do so.

indeed it is. we have a LOT of bureaucracy to get through before we're actually living in the same country though. neutral

it's all good however - she's visiting next month for 5 weeks and we're getting the ball rolling with the paperwork in the meantime.

So how did you manage to get away from it afterwards?

smile

well we had cold feet a little right afterwards, but it's been on the cards for about 3 years and we've been together for 6....and best friends for like 11 years....so, um...quite happy about it actually. smile

it's the cost and the paperwork which is the biggest stress. and one of us will have to move away from family and their home country (most likely me).

This question should be just directed at the guys. Women don't have the guts to do the asking. Or they are just hanging on to that dream that they had when they were sappy little girls about their dream man getting on one knee and proposing to them. Barf. It's sad to see men still falling for that.

why? if it's a question of inequality then I can understand, but some people just like to be a little traditional. what a crime!

Read the thread again, and open your mind back up.

My wife was the one who did the proposing - I dunno if it's the same elsewhere as in the UK, but the tradition is that on a leap year day (i.e. Feb 29th) the woman gets her chance to ask her man.

My wife asked me during her shift at the pub she worked at..just took me to one side (on the disabled access ramp, as it happened lol) and kind of blurted it out as best she could. Nothing pre-planned, no roses, no ring, no seranade just the facts: She wanted to marry me, did I feel the same.
