More beach drama....

So we're at the beach and my daughter is laying down with her friend, and they're eating cherries. All of the sudden my daughter says her throat hurts and her voice gets really faint. Then she says her lip hurts. I have her stand up and I'm staring at her lip and it is literally swelling in front of my eyes.

We packed up and headed home (and I found a nice $50 parking fine on my windshield). I gave her some Benadryl and am waiting to see what happens.

Do you think she's allergic to cherries? Does anyone know?

I was inspired by a real life cherry incident, Dude.

I just looked it up too, and it states:
Several studies have reported symptoms of cherry allergy. They include oral allergy syndrome (OAS) with mild itching of the lips, tongue or throat in patients with reported allergy to cherry and a positive IgE CAP to birch pollen (Scheurer et al. 2001).

hug for Flesh. That's great to hear! Thank God for Benadryl, besides making you sleepy after taking it, it really does the trick.

No, don't just rely on Benadryl in future. Please go to the doctor to have her tested, just to be on the safe side. She may need to carry adrenaline at some future point if she has an allergy to cherries, and may be allergic to more than one thing.

No, it was more a lip connection than a cherry connection. Nevermind.

If I may as one with this form all allergy response who needs to take her own advice.....

The throat swells in that form of allergy cutting off the airway. If one has that allergic response to one food they may and likely will have it to others in time to come. The doctor will prescribe and epinephrine shot that you can carry in your purse... Should you be in a bad situation a small jab to the leg will prevent it from progressing further and buy time if it is real bad. Just as precaution.....

My allergies were always more skin... but suddenly I swell in the lips, tongue and throat. Very alarming. I have had good success with using benadryl but need to get the other just in case.

My first thoughts would be to call an ambulance. Seems like an allergy reaction that could of gone wrong.

Believe it or not at this point its nutraweet... and that only If I get to much of it in my sytem at once.... SO diest anything is a bad move... Redbull diet was the first time I noticed it... That and when I had a few popsicles that were sugarfree or a large glass of Crystal light. I am not trying to avoid sugar but carbs.

I'm not familiar with this ingredient. actually I'm not familiar with any ingredient since I'm not allergic to anything.
Is it very common?

Nutrasweet is a common sugar replacement in things. Its often used by people who are diabetic and or reducing carbs in an item. Fr instance Redbull has 43 carbs in 8oz. The sugarfree version has like 5. If I am going to ingest 43 carbs I am going to have a great meal not an energy drink.

Bottom line is my body does not like additives which is really a good thing.
