nod I really miss it actually...Moreno Valley was really beautiful...that was undoubtably THE most beautiful Air Force base I have ever seen or been assigned to...It's closed now sad

When I was stationed there...I had an immediate culture shock when I was informed that they were doing "seimic upgrades" to the building. The building, once completely upgraded, was designed to fall in a specific manner and direction...right on top of my office! nod

Welcome to California! lol

LoL...well, maybe they were thinking that the earthquake would have occurred on the weekend when you wouldn't have been in there. wink

I once was coming back from San Diego late at night, and took the road/highway/whatever that goes by Moreno Valley (it's beautiful there, definitely)...my ex and I were driving back and the car broke down. We ended up walking back to Redlands (near San Bernardino) at about 1:00 am, and at that time of night, the two-lane highway back there is poorly lit. Maybe a car would pass once every 20 minutes. No payphones or gas stations along that stretch...nothing but rolling hills and mountains in the far distance...and we didn't have cell phones back then. It was freaky.

About two hours into the walk, we came across this distraught woman and her two kids walking towards us on the side of the highway, just appearing out of the darkness. She had been crying, and almost seemed in shock. Her oldest child (a girl of about 7 years) was the only one who seemed together. Apparently her husband/bf had argued with her while driving down that same road, became abusive and pushed her and her kids out of the car, stranding her there. My ex and I just tried consoling her, and looking around the darkness trying to figure out if there was something we could do. The little girl wouldn't stop staring at me...so I kept smiling at her and would kneel down to her level whenever I talked to her. Not sure it did much good, tho. I spotted in the distance this building, so I jumped the ditch between the road and the field, and ran over there to see if anyone might be there. The building turned out to be a mortuary..lol...stuck out in the middle of nowhere. I suddenly had visions of some grade-B horror flick and freaked out. However, nobody was there anyway...

We stayed with the woman for about 15 minutes comforting her, when a policeman suddenly pulled up in his car. We explained why we were walking along the dark highway and were trying to get to Redlands, then told him how we came to stumble upon the lady and her two kids. He helped the lade and her kids into his squad car, and said "Are you two ok?" to me and my ex...we said we were exhausted from walking but otherwise, yeah, we were ok. He said ok, got in his car...and drove off, leaving us there to keep walking. confused No help or assistance, nothing...we walked about another 2 hours before some college guys offered us a ride in the back of their pickup truck at 3:00 am...lol...when they dropped us off at our apartment complex, they asked for payment for their assistance...$20, they said. We wrote them a check...lol neutral

My ex likes to say now that anyone who experiences car trouble with me, is a part of my life forever..lol...that they're "in" cuz they know what it's like to be with me when I'm driving a car and it suddenly just stops. I must have some freakish aura around me that disables cars at will...lol

Oh man... eek *Note to self...keep Byron away from my car! lol

That whole story is great though....As soon as I was close enough to realize it was a mortuary...I'd have turned tail and boogied out of there though...sounds like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" theme there.... disbelief No thanks! lol

Nice of the cop to leave you guys...that sucked.... hmph! Barney Fife mf'r..... lol Do you ever wonder what happened to that jackass? That's just plain mean if you ask me...he knew you 2 were far from civilization...and then those guys wanted money eek disbelief What ever happened to being kind to your fellow man..I can't imagine ever accepting, much less asking for remitance... hmph!

I was born and raised in Gary. I moved because everyone moves from Gary. Have you been there? It was actually a fun place to grow up. As a kid, you are not concerned with good schools or safe neighborhoods. In Indiana, Munster was the best city in which I lived. Over all that is a great little town.

Brownsville was a transitional place for me when I moved to Texas. I now live in Harlingen where I will remain for the rest of the time I am in Texas.

I believe you. I don't like it though, since it's basically a fantasy that both fall in love with (the handsome, masculine westerner and the swooning, innocent exotic beauty respectively) and not the actual person. There are exceptions of course, but I've seen a lot of what I just described.

I forgot to mention Jerusalem as a city I would move to, if there wasn't a war going on. If I knew I was going to die, however, and could choose my whereabouts, that would be a good place to do it.

Which cities have you lived in

Blaricum
Alkmaar
Amsterdam
Paris
Amsterdam

How would you rank them and why?

Blaricum, 9 out of ten
Alkmaar, 3 out of ten
Amsterdam, 8 out of ten
Paris, 7 out of ten
Amsterdam, 8 out of ten

What made you move away from those you no longer live in?

I was born in Blaricum, where I lived in the house I was born in for 23 years.
Then I moved to Alkmaar for a job, both village and job sucked. So moved back to my mom.
Moved to Amsterdam for work. Then got a new job, then a relocation of that office took me to Paris.
Then I got fed up with Parisians, went back to Amsterdam.

Which cities have you always wanted to live in but not yet got around to actually moving to?

I always have been seduced by Istanbul, Firenze, Montreal and San Fransisco. But I also love the country too, I can imagine myself settling in a little town I never heard of before somewhere in Canada. Or just moving back to Blaricum, if I ever earn lotsa casha.
