David Mitchell's Number9Dream is easily one of the best books I've ever read.

Mika Waltari's The Egyptian is a great historical fiction.

Aztec, by Gary Jennings. I'm a historical fiction nerd.
Insatiable taught me everything I know about balls.

The Bear Comes Home by Rafi Zabor is awesome nod

The most accurate writing about how it feels to play jazz it also comes over like an allegory of the jazz musician as outsider. worship

Running with Scissors, Dry, or Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs. HIGH-larious and heartbreaking. Good stuff.

I haven't finished it yet, but I definitely recommend House of Leaves, which I discovered thru the Org. Check it out!

Where are you now? Have there been any "explorations"?

Have you read the chapter on echoes?

I'm telling you, ADD. I read it for about 3nights before bed, then kinda slipped away. ..... (running away to get book and see where I am) ...

Oh no. Worse than I thought. Only 40 pages in. Looks like the echoes start on 41:

It is impossibleto appreciate the importance of space in the Navidson Record without first taking into account the significance of echoes.

If you're thinking about getting the Tao Te Ching get 'Tao Te Ching - An Illustrated Journey' translated by Stephen Mitchell. It has beautiful illustrations and a good translation.

Yes, I'm always going on about the same old thing, but I only have around 10 or 12 books with me here in Thailand. I've forgotten what I've read and what I've not. I think the last book I read that wasn't Eastern philosophy was 'The Outsider' by Camus, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Seriously though, I agree with about 60% of the book! He's highly critical of Bush so you might actually agree with about 25% of it!

Keep in mind that he does pop off at the mouth quite a bit, etc, but he makes some decent points...I don't necessarily agree with all he says about Bush, but whatevs...it's a decent read - he's a really smart guy (PhD from Berkeley, etc), but I don't take everything he says seriously....

Berkeley??? More interesting...
I've never paid much attention to him or what he says. I know "of" him, but not about him.

He definitely makes some foot-in-mouth comments, but I think a lot of them are for shock value. He's a really smart guy with an attitude. Again, I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but I also think a lot of what he says has a lot of value (once you strip away the shock-jock factor)....he actually has several PhD's etc...I think something in herbal stuff...don't know for sure...he's an environmentalist too thumbs up!

I won't say I'm gonna seek it out, but I might give him a closer look than I would have before.
