NEW YORK in september : looking for a place to sleep :) hi,
I'm raphy, i live in Paris France. I'd like to go to New York City in September for a week with my girlfirend. But hotels are TOO expensive. (Nothing under 150 dol/night on the differents website). So i come here because "prince's fans" have always good address or good info to help. Do you know someone in town who rent an appartment ? Or a good hotel less expensive but that i can't find on the net ? I can "trade" a place to sleep if you wish to come in france for the next Prince's show... I'm ok to listen all offers Thanks for your help, and sorry for my english Raphy www.schkopi.com

Maybe they're seasonal prices but can't think why it's so expensive for Sept. Anyway, I went there back in spring '02 and managed to find a place called the Hotel Ameritania 54. On 54th St., west, it's more or less located in mid-town Manhattan and literally only a 5 min. walk to Times Sq. The quad room I booked worked out to about £30 p/n per person (including night occupancy tax and all that other shit N.Y. slaps on you). The price was also inclusive of complimentary morning coffee and bagels, as much as you like buffet style. You gotta get to 'breakfast' early though, before all the bagels are gone! Check these links... http://www.crshotels.com/...otelId=283 http://www.ameritaniahotelnewyork.com/ Don't be fooled by the pictures, it's a neat(ish) place but nothing flash, 2 and a half ~ 3 stars at best. Was thinking of another place too (further down town) which was as cheap as chips being almost like a youth hostel, but can't remember the name for the life of me. Spoke to the hotel people too, sounded okay. Each room had it's own bohemian style decor done by local artists on different themes. Pretty cool but very basic inclusions and shared W.C.s. Will try and root through my old notes to find the name of the place for you. Check out the book 'Rough Guide To New York City' if you can. It's a very handy (albeit heavy) companion for pre-travel ideas, tips, itinerary planning and lots of other practical city information too. I found my hotel short list in the back of that guide. Loads of well priced hotels could be found on there, all categorized and graded for ease use (with phone numbers too). Wait up for a few more responses and advice from other people and then go investigate. "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."
