Hitch Hikers Ahh the open road! Have you ever hitch hiked or picked up a hitch hiker? Were they as psychotic as that guy in 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' or was it as romantic an experience as though you were in a Jack Kerouac novel? Hitch-hiking stories please...

One time, long time ago, my husband picked me up from work and he had a whole family with him. I was thinking wtf??? They had broken down on the side of the road. He picked them up and offered them a ride, but told them he had to pick me up and he HAD to be on time. They rode along. It was funny as hell. Total stranger dude sitting in my front seat.....should've seen my face

Ex-Moderator | My car broke down on the freeway fairly late at night once and a nice couple picked me up and brought me to their house to use the phone. They even fed me while I was waiting for a friend to pick me up. They were quite nice. |

When I was 16 I hitched from my girlfriends home which was about 4 miles or so.
I was picked up by this Land Rover with a group of guys in it. It was Ok at first they chatted to me and stuff. Then one of them started talking in an exaggerated effeminate voice saying to the guy next to him how he fancied him etc. The other guy was going 'That voice suits you' So I'm getting more and more nervous and the guy driving was going real fast. I just wanted to get the hell out of there I was really scared. We got to my turning and I said 'Just drop me here' but they carried on. One of them said 'You're not going home. You're coming with us to Keighley' which is about 15 miles from where I live. At this point I was starting to lose it and getting pretty hysterical. Then the driver said 'We're gonna split your fucking ringer mate' The next bit is a blur. I opened the back door of the car and jumped out. I guess he must have slowed down or I would have injured myself. Anyway I ran home and I'm still here. It could have been a prank I 'spose but I vowed NEVER TO HITCH HIKE AGAIN if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I was about 14 years old and I was waiting for the bus. A guy on a motorcycle stopped right in front of me and nodded for me to get on. I got really excited and scared and everything all at once. Being the whore that I was even at that age. I decided to go for it. Right when I was going to get on he took his helmet off and it was a cousin of mine. Fun ride though. It made me buy a motorcycle years later.

only once .. Christmas morning a few years ago. He was a frenchman who wanted to go to London and me and my husband took him as far as we could. He was a bit psychopathic - he told us he worked in a blood laboratory in France and had just turned up in England because he wanted to go to London for Christmas. Then he just kept talking about blood.
Everything was closed, but in the end we had to get him out of the car as he was doing our heads in so we dropped him near a tube station.

I only picked up one once. But I knew him!! In the middle of nowhere I see this guy hitchhiking, and I recognise him as an old school mate and brought him all the way into London from somewhere near Shrewsbury, he was well chuffed. He had planned to meet some girl (he met in Tibet) in Trafalgar square on a certain day, or something, surreal but no chainsaws.

When I was in Germany, I picked up some young german guys and drove them home.
They were dressed kind of trendy and the sole purpose of my picking them up was to find out where all the cool clubs were. They told me of a place called "The Cult" in a town near Sembach, Germany and it became a Saturday Night staple with us military guys. Hitch hikers are sometimes really help your social life.

My only other hitchhiking story is this...
I was driving to my Mom's. I was alone and it was night time and pouring out. This young woman was walking up the street carrying her baby, trying to keep her under a blanket. There was no way I could drive past. I stopped and gave her a ride. She told me her boyfriend had thrown her out with her daughter. I was glad that I helped. I hope the greasy bastard who put her out is suffering. The end.

Once.. I was driving into town, and some guy ran out in front of my car, screaming, I thought there was somethign wrong, as he climbs into the car, uninvited nonetheless, some ratty old car comes trying to run him over, and smash into my car.
well I took him straight to the police station, as he was ranting and raving about how they were trying to kill him, and kept god blessing me for helping him. I think they all were having a bad acid trip
