IS YOUR BODY IN PROPORTIONZ?

Body mass index, or BMI, is a new term to most people. However, it is the measurement of choice for many physicians and researchers studying obesity. BMI uses a mathematical formula that takes into account both a person's height and weight. BMI equals a person's weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared.

People who should not use the BMI are: anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing women, frail and sedentary elderly people, competitive athletes or body builders.

If you fall under one of these categories, you should consult your doctor with any concerns about your weight.

What you weigh is the result of several factors:

How much and what kinds of food you eat;

Whether your lifestyle includes regular physical activity;

Whether you use food to respond to stress and other situations in your life;

Your physiologic and genetic make-up;

Your age and health status.

Successful weight loss and weight management should address all of these factors.

I'm into Vindaloos and the like. I hate those fatty, buttery, made up curries.
