So if a tree falls in the woods..... ...and nobody is there to hear it....does it make a sound?

It's just a verbal dispute.
One side says you could record the sound of it falling to confirm that sound waves were produced when u weren't there. Condensations and rarefactions of particles occur regardless of whether there is anyone around to experience to hear them. The other says there is no sound since if you aren't actually there you can't hear it falling. Since sound here refers to the sound sensation, and if no one is there, there's no one to have the sensation. And so it goes on... I need a nap...

I don't understand why it wouldn't make a sound just cos noone was there to hear it? Since when was sound defined by how many are in the audience?!

Of course, because of quantum physics, if there's nobody there to observe the tree falling in the woods in the first place, then does it actually fall or not? That's before we even get to whether or not the falling tree makes a sound.
