Then the day comes, racking up so much emotional, physical and finanical debt and hearttache that you can't close your eyes at night without being assaulted by your own mind. trying to achieve the same as another person in terms of financial wealth or social status is moot. there will always be somebody richer than you, more "powerful" than you (which is all an illusion anyway).

fighting for change should never be about ourselves, it should be on behalf of others. that's why i continue to do what i do - because i've come to realize that [b]it's not about me - nothing is. once you get that, you can't help but keep going. [/b]

also, let's not forget, society has NEVER been fair from a hierarchical perspective, there was always a Mr Big within the cave-man clan to a beehive...and if i'm correct, a little experiment to create a "fair" society was tested last century...communism, the utopian society? worked in theory, but a big stinking pile of poo in practice....hierarchies maybe a good thing

isn't it funny how it sounds so contradictory, yet it's dead-on...

it starts with you and what you can do to change, but the goal is for the change not to be about you.

for example, if you want to do something about sweatshops in Asia, you have to first understand that your personal shopping habits contribute to this phenomenon. so a good start is for YOU to stop shopping at Wal-Mart, before you move on to picket Tom DeLay for his idiotic comments about sweatshop labor. but in all this, it's not ever about you, it's about the sweatshop workers in Asia. your convenience (large stores with low prices) stands in no relation to the suffering of the workers there.

that's what i understood Dansa to say - you need to know where you stand on things before you can go out and change the world.
