Do you mean your credit card number and experation date or your name, address, ss#, and mother's maiden name was stolen? The first is an easy fix, but if your personal info was hacked, that can result in a lifetime of problems.

I'd suggest that everyone have credit monitoring. I have it and one of the benefits is that you will be contacted anytime a new credit account is openned in your name. That way if you didn't open the account you can report it as fraud before any charges are made.

I've been a victum of credit card fraud twice, once with my debt card, and an entire box of checks were stolen from my home mail box. The credit card charges were about $800 and the checks were about $12,000. It took months to clear that up.

I have all my mail sent to a PO Box also.

My mom's card was a part of that hacking. They had to send her a new one.

Here are some important numbers in case your personal info has been lost or stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742
3.) Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289
4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

It's like someone said on TV. Just think about how often you hand over your card at a restaurant or hotel and you have no idea what they're doing. All the info anyone needs is right on the card, how secure is that?

People who had their info stolen have no problem getting the money reimbursed in case of fraude.
