Mother Charged in Dog Mauling i can't find the original thread on this, but here is an update on the woman whose pit bull killed her 12-year-old son...
Mom charged in fatal dog mauling Friday, June 24, 2005; Posted: 9:05 a.m. EDT (13:05 GMT) SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- The mother of a 12-year-old boy fatally mauled by the family's pit bulls was charged Thursday with child endangerment. Nicholas Faibish was killed June 3 by one or both of the family dogs when his mother went out to run errands. Maureen Faibish, 39, found her son in a bedroom, covered in blood from several wounds, including a major head injury. One of the dogs was shot and killed by a police officer shortly after the attack. The other remains in animal control custody. "His parent made the decision to leave (Nicholas) alone in a situation that endangered his life and ultimately led to his death," prosecutor Kamala Harris said in a statement. Maureen Faibish told the San Francisco Chronicle she had been so concerned about one of the dogs that she shut her son in the basement to protect him. She said the male dog was acting possessively because the female was in heat. An arraignment will be scheduled for next week. Faibish faces a maximum ten years in prison if convicted. she had no business breeding these animals when they were obviously a safety concern. when will people listen?

This is why I am very much for spaying and neutering your pets!
I get so upset when I hear ppl say that they have their dogs to breed them so they can make $. I am not sure why this women did not fix her female knowing that the male was having issues with her being in heat. What a shame, for the boy and the 2 dogs! The one thing that everyone reading this story should take from it is this: Fix your pets!! There are other lessons to learn from this story also, do not have aggressive pets around kids, especially unsupervised. Remember also that the aggression is NOT just breed related. My min. Schnauzer hates kids and so does one of my Australian Cattle Dogs. I would never leave either one of those dogs alone with a kid or someone new to our home. You have got to know your pets and make sure everyone is safe, including the animals!

another thing that bothers me about this is that the mother said something to the effect of "it was just his time to go." as if being mauled by a dog was the equivalent of suffering from a long-term illness and passing away or somethin. that is outright unfathomable.

she should be held accountable. you have children and pets (sometimes they are the same ), anyway, it's called responsibility. it almost seems like adding insult to injury; she lost her child, her pets, and now being charged? but if the statements are true, she seems a bit callus. book her now!

now that's just sad to hear. i'd like to think that it is her way of explaining this tragedy to herself, but it sounds incredibly callous...

Yea, I was amazed when I heard her say that shit too. If anything it was her time to get rid of those fucking dogs or lock THEM in the basement, not her son
