okay, so i maybe moving to America (career purposes) and i'd just like to know which city in America is most "like" a European city. I have never been to the US, and would honestly never consider moving there for any other reason than my job...but i've heard that Seattle is a pretty cool place....

Hell my Puerto Rican friend looks like he is from the Middle East. Just do what he does, tell them to fuck off and go find Bin Ladden! Now if you move to the Bible Belt you may have a problem. Stay close to largely populated cities but not New York!

lol

came from Germany straight to South Carolina back in the 80s. i stood out like a sore thumb in all sorts of ways, but it was my only option, and i really don't regret it. moved to North Carolina since - like it a lot.

the south isn't bad if you stick to the larger cities like Atlanta. lots of job opportunities, good weather and friendly people (well, mostly!)

friends of mine are moving to Seattle this weekend - they can't wait. i must say, i'm a little jealous... confused

good luck to ya - hope you find a job in a location you like! thumbs up!

New Orleans is probably the most European of the cities I've visited. Probably that old French influence. That and it just does not feel like anywhere else in the US to me. The architecture's so different, the people have a vibe all their own, everything seems old and romantic... I really loved it there. Of course, the South does come with it's racial problems, but if you stick to the larger cities you're generally safe at least.
As for the rest of the country, all of the major cities (and some of the medium-sized ones, like Mpls) are fairly cosmopolitan. You'll get art, a decent live music scene, nice restaurants and a fairly diverse population (much more so than any small towns). Just depends what kinda flavor you like, I guess.

Stay the fuck away from the big cities. Even if Americans say it's a decent place, low crime and crap...then by European standards, it's really not. lol
