My Shamelessly Indulgent Follow-Up Thread To My Shamelessly Indulgent Audition Thread

Welp, I survived my audition today.

Got suited up in 97 degree weather, sweated out one dress shirt in the five minutes it took me to wait for a cab after getting dressed (no A/C in Chez Anxiety yet), so I hadda get dressed a SECOND time - and i poured my melting self into the taxi and headed to Second City...

...where I was the only auditionee wearing a suit. Everyone else was in t-shirts. Flip-flops. Shorts. SHIT!!! mad

So I made a quick change in the men's room and emerged one costume change later, much more casually attired (lost the tie, lost the jacket, did a quick scruff job on the hair), and got the show on the road.

I guess I did okay - I got a couple of yuks from the auditioners, but other folks got more yuks than I did. I did my best to throw myself out there, though I felt like I coulda gone a little bit farther than I did. Still and all, it's one thing to give a kick-ass performance when you're working with a group that you've been rehearsing with for over a year - it's another thing to be in an audition with a bunch of strangers you have zero chemistry or rapport built up with. So I won't be TOO harsh on myself.

Anyhoo. It's over. I'm relieved. Either I'll be a conservatory student this fall, or I won't. Fortunately, if they don't admit me, I have two other options I want to pursue, so all won't be lost. And next time I audition for Conservatory (if it comes to that), I'll know to leave the damn necktie at home. rolleyes

Thanks everyone who had kind words for me yesterday! I felt yer good vibes. grouphug

thanks!

i dig bruce, but i've never read his book or his essays. i bet they're a hoot.

i didn't really audition for a part today - i auditioned to get permission to enroll in advanced improv classes at second city. we'll be doing "real" performances as part of this class, but it's still in a lab setting.

it was all improv. they lined us up on stage and then we started out by doing three-person scenes (i hadda go first, lucky me, ugh), and then we did freeze-tag for about ten minutes. the whole thing lasted about half an hour.

woot! Hey at least you are following your dream. That's something there. It's hard to strut your stuff and show folks your chops and wares...so to speak. And FIRST! In this case not necessa a good thing. I know I would have prefered to go ...well not first esp since there was a costume change and all which would have had me all off balance.

Good luck with it all and keep us posted. hug I'm waiting to hear about Annoyance.
