My neighbor will not shut up!!!! For the last two nights my neighbor has been making niose. The niose begins around 10 P.M and continues until 3 A.M. He is a very heavy walker and it sounds as if he is stumbling around his apartment. I often hear very loud, heavy pounding as if someone is dropping something very heavy over and over. It shakes the entire floor.
It sounds like he is throwing things. I constantly hear him moving furniture, slamming doors and he must open and close his main door 20 or 30 times a day. Most of the time he slams the door. No one else seems to be bothered by his late night activties. I have notified the landlord in writing about the issue, but in the past, it never seemed to help. Should I confront my nieghbor?

Put Wedding Feast on repeat, turn the volume up to the max, and go stay with a friend for the night.
On a more serious note, in my experience noisy neighbours tend to get abusive or violent if you confront them, so I'd go down the official route first. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Be careful, he may be rearranging the dead bodies.

M ya know... when he answers the door.. he only opens it a crack. I have seen him open the door as I go by... he stares at me through the slightly open door. I have never seen an open window or open patio door. I have never heard the sound of a TV nor radio coming from his apartment. Kind of spooky, if you ask me.

He might be dangerous - I'm serious. Maybe you should write him a note instead.

I have never noticed any lights on, nor is there any curtains or window coverings.

The next thing you know strange odors will be coming out of that place. M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I have never noticed any lights on, nor is there any curtains or window coverings. Okay, something's definitely wrong with him! Badger your landlord instead of confronting him. Maybe if you badger him enough, it'll help. I once had a neighbor who lived in the4 building directly acroos fromm me. There was only like a 4 feet distance between the building. When his alarm when off in the mornings, he WOULD NOT TURN IT OFF!!!!!. I mean it would go on for a few hours. Not only did it give me a headache, but this included weekends - the only timme I got to sleep late. It pissed me off so much, I went to his landlord.

There have been problems on and off since then.

Thankfully, I'm a homeowner not, so I don't have "apartment" problems now.
The only things that annoy me is when people stand on my property. I have a corner property so people tend to stand on it. Your neighbor is seriously weird and steande. I assumed he just moved in. If you've never seen light on or heard any noises in THREE years - that would scare me.

I have the option to buy the apartment that I am living in, but I have doubts now. [Edited 6/24/05 10:51am]

Go tell him if he doesn't quiet down you're going to kick his ass. That usually works.

Back when I was renting I did that once when my downstairs neighbor decided that 5 o'clock in the morning was a good time to rock out. It defintely worked, but in hindsight I wouldn't suggest it. Bad things could happen.

I mean, I would always ask nicely, but if that didn't work, it's time to quiet down or I'm kicking your ass.

Yeah, especially since you have no way of knowing how long that weirdo will be there. That sucks. I spoke to the manager just now, she went & talked to him. He denied everything. She said that he had plastic tarps covering all the furniture and blankets strewn about the place. Not to memtion the garbage, she said it was rather disgusting. He said he would clean it up. but he still denied the niose.

See I told you, the plastic over the furniture is a REALLY good sign of malfeasance. M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop!
