it's gettin hot up here! From the MPLS paper:
Thursday ... Dangerously hot, windy and sunny. Winds: south 15-25. High: 95, but a dew point near 70 could make it feel like 100-105 by late afternoon. Slow down, avoid the afternoon sun, if possible, and check in on older friends and neighbors. The sick and elderly are most vulnerable to the heat. Thursday night ... A good chance of showers and thunderstorms, some heavy. Low: 70 it's already 81 degrees here. YIKES! how's summer treatin the rest of y'all?

article 2:
Metro area bakes in summer heat Matt McKinney, Star Tribune June 23, 2005 Air pollution, pavement blowups and potentially severe thunderstorms were among the possibilities today as the Twin Cities area faced what's expected to be the hottest day of the year to date. The overnight low at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport dipped only to 80 degrees, the National Weather Service reported. As of 7 a.m., the thermometer was headed up, toward a predicted high in the mid 90s. Heat index values - which purportedly reflect the apparent effect of wind and humidity on human skin - were expected to exceed 100 degrees. The heat index in southeastern Minnesota could reach 105, forecasters said. Areas of the state near Lake Superior were the only places not expected to get into the 90s today. Some temperature records could fall today. On Wednesday, Hutchinson set a record of 89, breaking the old record of 88 set in 1988. Today's record high in the Twin Cities is 99 degrees, set in 1937. The combination of pollution and strong sunlight creates ozone, a gas that protects our planet at high altitudes but damages plants and human lungs at ground level. Children and the elderly are especially at risk. The state issued an air-quality alert for the Twin Cities today. (Updates are available at aqi.pca.state.mn.us) To avoid making things worse, limit driving and refuel after dark. Postpone or reduce heavy or prolonged exertion. Ozone levels are expected to drop Friday. The Sabathani Community Center plans to hand out fans and air conditioners to those in need. The nonprofit agency at 310 E. 38th St., Minneapolis, (612-821-2300), takes donations from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No bout of hot and humid weather would be complete without the threat of severe weather. The weather service said a slight risk of severe thunderstorms exists late this afternoon and tonight, with the possibility of large hail, damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall. Weather service storm spotters were told they may be needed this afternoon and tonight. .... WHEEEE!

My power went out last night at about 10 o'clock. I hear it goes out often in my neighborhood in the heat due to all the aircondintioning and whatnot. It was weird getting ready for bed and reading by candlelight. And it was a bit creepy. |

I love AltaVista's fuck-up translations, so here goes;
Tropically warm. With a Southern stroming very warm air is invoked. The sun seems in abundance and at many places run the temperature on to the tropical value of 86 degrees. There a weak south to south west wind blows. Vanmiddag a wind of sea can along the coast blow will there which then in a narrow counterfoil what verkoeling ensures. Coming night is it clearly and does not decrease the temperature much further than up to a degree or 60-63. Friday is there initially much sun and increases the temperature very fast. Maximumtemperatuur lies even still something higher than today and can room the 91.4 degrees reach. at noon cumulida develop and in the afternoon and evening there chance on a onweersbui is. Hehhehe.
