can't see the video right now. Is it the one where the handlers are mis-treating the chickens?

ok, that's wrong , but it's still not gonna stop me from eating chicken....for now. I feel like it would be wrong of me to shout animal cruelty while still eating chicken. If I'm gonna be an animal activist, I'm not gonna half ass it.

I seriously doubt that this is restricted to only KFC. They probably just get their chicken from suppliers like any other restaurant. If you're going to condemn KFC, then you must go after all the other restaurants that serve chicken as well.

I swapped from milk to soy milk about a year ago.

Don't miss milk much unless I get the urge for icecream--and that's rare lately.

I just came through the drive-thru and saw you practically dumping some popcorn chicken into your mouth like you were eating M&M's from a box in a movie theater!

Evidence indicates that milk from rBGH-treated cows is very likely to feature:

- more pus from infected cows' udders;
- more antibiotics given to cows to treat those infections;
- an "off" taste and shortened shelf life, because of the pus;
- perhaps higher fat content and lower protein content;
- more of a tumor-promoting chemical called IGF-I, which has been
implicated in cancers of the colon, smooth muscle, and breast.

um, ok, so here's my .02 on this peta movie: yeah, its bad that kfc treats their livestock this way. and yeah, there are more humane ways to handle the slaughter of these animals. i find it pathetic, however, that the "narrator" barely mentions the awful conditions under which migrant workers are forced to work...and for what little pay they receive doing such work...showing more sympathy for these birds than for the poor folks having to work their fingers to the ground for a few bucks. can you imagine the cuts, scrapes, and infections these workers must get every day from handling these chickens?

yeah, i'm concerned about the well being of animals. i'm more concerned about the well being of humans though. besides that, peta are nothing short of a terrorist organization that make animal rights activists look like flakes.

I know nothing about Peta.

As for the migrant workers, that's all the more reason for me not to support this company. People should be treated with dignaty and respect.

But based soley on the footage, I will never eat their chicken (and possibly chicken in general) again. Evil is evil, no matter who exposes it. ill

PETA actually speaks out against the horrible working conditions of slaughterhouse workers - check out Bruce Friedrich's "Veganism in a Nutshell" - a great cd.

the problem with KFC has been their continued refusal to require more human living conditions and slaughterhouse practices from their suppliers. that's what prompted this campaign.

I'm kinda in the same place you are. Of course this is awful, but I wonder what made Pam Anderson take up this particular cause. As a victim of domestic abuse, I would think (rather, I would hope) she'd be more interested in the welfare of other women. But who knows? Maybe she just isn't comfortable addressing that issue in a public way.

And, yes, PETA does a lot of good, but they don't always put a great face to the animal rights campaign. That whole deal with them sending diet tips and "vegetarian starter kits" to overweight celebrities (Michael Moore, Ruben Studdard, Luciano Pavarotti and others) really bothered me. All their weight issues were boiled down to the fact that they eat meat.

This not only applies to KFC but all chicken products that you eat. The pictures of the poultry houses are representative of the conditions used in intensive production of poultry. Most chickens which go on to be sold as retail poultry products are raised and slaughtered in this way.

I have never seen the amount of abuse shown in this film but I'm sure in goes on in many farms and poultry processing facilties, as well as in red meats abbatoirs. If the way that chickens are slaughtered bothers you, then you should have a look at how cows, pigs and sheep are slaughtered.

As part of my study/job, I have seen first hand how these animals are slaughtered. I did try to be vegetarian for a while but it was difficult as due to wheat/gluten allergies I can't eat most meat substitutes - and I became anaemic as a result.

As regards the workforce - its true that the majority of staff in poultry production facilities are migrant workers. As in most cases, these people are doing jobs that no-one else would even consider doing for very little pay and there is risk of infection through nips, scratches, etc. and from exposure to bacteria from faecal gut contents of the chickens.

However, I don't think that this excuses animal cruelty but if the companies were to offer monetary incentives to their workers to produce carcasses with less damage (i.e. broken bones, bruising) they may be less likely to carry out the abuse seen in this film.
