The Glengarry Glen Ross Thread!

One of my favorite movies.

I saw the Broadway production over the weekend! woot! With Alan Alda playing Shelley (Jack Lemmon's role), Liev Schreiber in the role Pacino nailed to the board, Ricky Roma, and Tom Wopat as James Lingk.

Obviously they all had some pretty big shoes to fill, especially Schreiber, but they did a damn good job!

The main difference between the play and the movie was that there was no Alec Baldwin character in the play. Apparently Mamet wrote that part for Baldwin just for the movie. That scene is a real show stealer by the way.

I don't know why I never caught the echoes of Death of a Salesman before in GlenGarry. It seems so obvious.

Any other fans of the movie or play?

Anybody want to see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives.
Third prize is you're fired.

It's an absolutely fantastic movie - I must make a note to see it again someday, as it's been a while since I watched it.

I love the way that Jack Lemmon plays it because you really get a feel for the desperation he's feeling.

All train compartments smell vaguely of shit. It gets so you don't mind it. That's the worst thing that I can confess. You know how long it took me to get there? A long time. When you die you're going to regret the things you don't do. You think you're queer? I'm going to tell you something: we're all queer. You think you're a thief? So what? You get befuddled by a middle-class morality? Get shut of it. Shut it out. You cheated on your wife? You did it, live with it. You fuck little girls, so be it. There's an absolute morality? Maybe. And then what? If you think there is, then be that thing. Bad people go to hell? I don't think so. If you think that, act that way. A hell exists on earth? Yes. I won't live in it. That's me. You ever take a dump made you feel like you'd just slept for twelve hours?

The guy who played Williamson wasn't nearly as good as Spacey. I'm not a big Spacey fan. I think he was horribly miscast in both Usual Suspects and 7, but he's great in this movie.

Shelley: "But...my daughter..."

Williamson: "FUCK you."

How many times could I have used that speech. sigh

Dave Moss: Who are you? What's your name?

Blake: You see this watch? You see this watch?

Dave Moss: Yeah.

Blake: That watch costs more than your car. I made $970,000 last year. How much you make? You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy, I don't give a shit. Good father, fuck you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here, close. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?

Love this movie and I tell the multitude of salesmen I deal with dailey to watch this and then call me back.

"Put that fucking cofee down, coffee is for closers"

Baldwin scene is the show stealer and about the only thing he's done I respect (maybe that juror movie with Demi?). I'd love to see the play and yes the similarities between Wille in Death of a Salesman have always been what I've seen in Jack Lemmon's character.

I love the part in this movie when Jack Nicolson's character says:

"You want the TRUTH. You cant handle the TRUTH!"

Awesome nod

I have never seen the play, but I've seen the movie at least 20 times. It's fantastic. It's probably one of my top 10 favourite movies. All the actors were amazing. I love each character and each actor played their role flawlessly. Jack Lemmon was great. He was such a great actor no matter what role he was in. Pacino is one of my favourite actors and he played his role as well as he does all his others.

I have it on dvd and I lend it to all my friends. I want them to see what real acting is. Great movie. I recommend to everyone.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm a mortgage consultant and a Realtor...this movie is like the Bible in our office.

I fancy myself a cross between Al Pacino (I can charm the birds out of the trees if need be), and Alec Baldwin when I'm pissed off and tired.

Yeah good movie.

Ending is kinda a "um, thats it?" but anyway. Nice twist. As u all have said, a masterclass in good acting. Alec baldwin should of been in it more. Since then, he went downhill confused
