~~Father's Day!!! Show or tell about your dad, (being a father) or one who represents an important role in your life.~~ I love my great uncle/dad. He made some huge sacrifices... (his life) to raise my sister and I.
He just turned 80 a couple of weeks ago. [Edited 6/19/05 9:00am]

Yea so... what if you don't have a father? In a general sense that is.

There has been someone significant in most of our lives... (not all), my uncle is not my biological father, but he is my dad. If I went into the generalizations of my life... well, it would be long. Some have passed, my biological father has long passed, although he never played a significant part of my life other than the physical make of myself.

The best dad that the lord could have given me is M.L. Durr Jr. He has done everything a father could have and should have done for his children. There are 3 of us, all girls;Im the oldest. My dad does stuff he never had to do for us, stuff that other people's parent's woulda been like no ur grown and on ur own thats's on u. But my dad never turned his back on me-- and he still helps me a great deal right now and im 33 yrs old. He is a wonderful and supportive grand father at that, he loves all six of his grand kid's dearly and would do anything for all of them as well. My daddy is deffinetly a hero to me, naw refwind that a Super Hero. [Edited 6/19/05 9:47am] im married 2 prince?. he just doesn't know it yet. lol.

[Edited 6/19/05 9:47am] Mach, thank you. Sexymella... thank you for your words. We may not all have the "father figure" we wish for. Although, we do have powerful figures that change and alter our life in many positive ways. In other ways as well...

Talk about an endless thought process. My mind is filled today, a bit more than usual. We all have our moments, right.
I am constantly thinking... I put myself into many different scenarios from time to time... I can easily rewind my life back 31 years ago... or even 33 years ago. Back then, we were in a situation where my biological mother was emerged in the drug world. I really don't have the facts of how my mother met my real father, although I can easily place where I believe it all took place. My mother mentioned meeting my father in a bar... I really believe she prostituted for money/drugs around the time of my conception. She was on Heroin when whe was pregnant with me, that I know to be true. There is a large empty space_____ for me to fill if I was consumed by it all... although I am not. I take it all for what it is worth... but there was a large period of my life when I hated the world, I lived with such anger. Anyways, my great aunt (who is my grandmothers sister) never had children of her own. So when my sisters and I were taken into legal custody by CPS, she ended up taking legal guardianship for all three of us. Now... in between this time... we were sent to an orphanage (I have mentioned this before) and really, our fate was so undetermined. I am thankful... beyond thankful. At times, I wonder... where we would of ended up, if my aunt did not make the decision that she did. But, at the same exact time... her and my uncle were seperated and legally divorced. When my aunt made the decision to raise us... my uncle came back and made the commitment to help raise us, my aunt could not have done it financially at that time. My aunt and uncle never reconciled in their relationship, yet he sacrificed his life for us. Words cannot convey... yet now, we talk about it all the time. He has lived his life... for my sister and I. He never had that "love" or that special someone... and believe me, we had to hear my aunt and uncle fight all the time. I despised him when I was little, I despised that he drank and came home and took it out on my aunt, verbally abusing her. Yet, today... I can forgive and be grateful for all that they both gave of themself... even if we lived in dysfunctional times. I have learned so much from my uncle... who I do call dad. I visit him once a week or for sure once every 2 weeks. We go into town and drink a couple of beers, talk about life... I hear about his past. A moment with my dad... is never repetitive or the same. I have learned so much from this man... and he is a big part of who I am today. I love my dad.

Anyways. I never really felt I had to show more love on Mother's, Father's or Pet's Day. I always tried to be good to all EVERY day of my life.
Of course, no day is ever enough to show people you love, so if a special day exists; USE IT! Take it from an orphan; grab every opportunity.

My father. He is a wonderful man. He is an intellect and a hero. He never wanted for to much in this world. His family is everything. He loves us dearly. He is a man you can depend on. Never has my wonderful father failed me. He has grown in life with me and sometimes painfully through me as I challenged all he has ever believed in. He threw my IQ (OOOoooo won't that come as a shock to some around here..... Muse has a substantial IQ! ) .... He threw my IQ in my face and his desire for me to advance in life in my face until rebellion drove me all another way. I was mortified I would end up like him and my Aunt. They know so much yet for all they know they struggle to relate to the rest of us. Their minds are constantly a million paces ahead of us. I feared to admit that I even understood them. There is beauty in maturity. I embrace all he is and accept so much of who I am is based on the informal education he managed to instill in me. Giving me the strength to go further in many directions then he has. Forgiving me for spiting in the face of genealogy and formal education. Also acknowledging that though I did it my way, I turned out wonderful and quite successful in my own rite. So forgive the typos (or not) as you already know I can't be arsed at this point to worry about them for you.... 6 months ago coyotes entered my yard and killed my dog. The carnage sent me reeling.... I called father unable to speak... When I got it out .. he came straight away. Took care of the mess.... cleaned the house of her things and saw to my needs. As he has every major need I have ever had in this life..... When I was small as he does now that I am 39.... [Edited 6/19/05 21:06pm]

As an added bonus my Grandfather.... 3 generations... My grandfather, father and son. My Grandfather was ill a few years back. I stayed the night with him... He called me into his room and spoke with me. He affirmed me basically. He told me how proud he was of me. That though I didn't go the expected route I have done well. He sited (FOR ONE) my finacial success as greater then the men of the family. ( For a man of 87 that was quite a feat!) I was so humbled I stared at my toes. He is a good and strong man. Here we see my son playing pool with him. It is a great memory for me. I had to wait to be old enough to play with him. Here we are 29 years later.... watching my son play on the same table I once did. He is a Scottish American and a man of his word. He is a stand up guy of integrity. [Edited 6/19/05 21:35pm]
