Ladies: Shoulder Pads: Love Them or Hate Them?

Do you like the shoulder pads that they put now into every dress outfit that is manufactured? Don't know about you, but I find myself getting annoyed by them, and I take them out of my clothes with a seam ripper. lol Half the time, the shoulder pad gets folded when you have the jacket, blouse or whatever on. It doesn't even sit on your shoulder properly. and it makes your clothes look wrinkly and the person wearing it kinda frumpy. Plus, the pads tend to make your shoulders look bulky, like a football player. hmm

The other thing I hate are those strings they put into tops and skirts to help you put them onto a hanger without it falling off. The issue I have with those is that half the time the strings hang out of your clothes, and you have to be sure that they're tucked in securely before you step foot out of your house. Those hanging strings are another thing I wind up cutting out of my clothes, don't like them much either. lol

Not really.
You can't build something new, without destroying something old

WOW! I don't remember the last I purchased something with shoulder pads in them... I know the 80's have been cycling through again but that's ridiculous!

And yes - hate them. smile

There's no shoulder pads these days that can beat the ones I wore in the 80's.

... I haven't bought anything in this decade with shoulder pads, probably because I remember them from the first time around biggrin ... I like the strings in tops though because it stops them slipping off the hangers. I'm always finding blouses at the bottom of my wardrobe that I forgot I had.

lol Seems like every outfit I buy now has those damn pads in them, although, a few weeks back I bought some dress tops that didn't have shoulder pads. So perhaps there's hope that they're on their way out.

This is true. It's easy to forget that you have a blouse when it falls off the hanger and is on the bottom of your closet. It kinda gets lost in the shuffle.

For the hangers, I buy the kind that have the little notches on the top, where the shoulder part of the top kind of slides in and holds it into place. It keeps the blouse onto the hanger without slipping off.

i remove shoulder pads from any garment given to me as a gift, and i never buy a blouse that incorporates them. for one they're so 80s, for another imo they look weird.

nod So far, not ONE person has said that they like them. If that's the case, then the people making these clothes need to leave them out of garments.
