I read an article about this in Self magazine the other day. The magazine was praising the females who were staying true to their own bodies... and really, that's how it ought to be. Though I admittedly don't like obesity. I don't think any one's "self" is to be a lard ass... It was kind of sad though, to read some of the tales about how such and such recording company or such and such director insisted they needed to lose weight or they';d never be a star. I bet the majority of these skinny celebrities aren't being true to their own body but actually denying themselves food and excessively exercising so they can look skinnier than so and so.... If they are being true to themselves then they would be eating sensibily, looking after themselves and not risking their health and fertility [Edited 6/16/05 3:09am] I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed

God, that picture of Donatella is awful. It doesn't matter how much money she has, she can't buy good looks. She's one of the uglist women I've ever seen.

Yep. All the above gotta eat some fast food, peanuts, and some fucking meat.
Virtually every girl I know wants to be skinnier, and its thanx to the above "role models" and mags they read that make them think this is "sexy"?. I think its worse in US then in UK. Thanx to "skinny ass" hollwood and the fact that ur country has a fast food joint on every corner. At least "lad" mags like maxim dont tell fellas to lose weight on evey page. This girl at work wouldn't have some of my bread and butter as it has "too many calories". Gimme a break I told her. Ahhhhh

It's getting worse and worse. Everytime you flip through a magazine, you see a new celebrity who looks freakishly thin. I was watching the MTV Movie Awards and half of those actresses really NEED to gain some weight, and looked in danger of toppling over in their stilletos.
And as much as I try to fight it, seeing those girls DOES affect me, and society as a whole - our celebrity-obsessed culture, largely, cannot see past their images and therefore begins to value this look as desirable and beautiful. Although Hollywood, with its fakeness and presumptuousness, seems surreal and untouchable, somehow it is hard to divide ourselves from the images we see on the glossy pages of Cosmo or on TV or the movies, and it becomes increasingly difficult to separate reality from celebrity. Which is paradoxical, in that in our everyday lives, generally, unless we live in very trendy, cosmopolitan cities, we always encounter people of a normal, healthy weight. Why is it that when I go out to the store or to the movies and I see a stick-thin girl, I feel more pity or concern than envy -- but when I see Nicole Richie's new body, I feel more envy than anything else? [Edited 6/16/05 15:36pm] I used to be extremely envious of thin peolple and ended up being on the brink of an eating disorder - I was religiously checking calories, exercising a lot but hadn't actually made myself throw up. It really started to scare me so I went to the doctor. I'm in a much better frame of mind now to understand that the skinny bodies of most celebrities are due to unhealthy eating regimes and over-exercising. Granted there are some people that are naturally thin and will find it hard to put on weight regardless of what they eat - but I find it hard to believe that every celecbrity America is NATURALLY THIN!!!! What people need to remember is that ur meant to eat every 3 hours. But work unfortunately premits this (I cant eat on the shopfloor of tescos unfortunately)
Ur body aint ever meant to be hungry. But sometimes ur body only needs water so dont oeverdo it.
