There was an article about dog therapy recently. I believe they are testing this program out in China; but basically they are bringing dogs into the hospital to be around patients, and it's cheering them up causing them to heal from their surgeries faster. Dogs are incredible companions, and can be one of your most trustworthy and loyal friends.

Reincarnate

I'm very sad for you and everyone who has lost pets. Dogs are such beautiful creatures, I'm sure God has a special place for them.

awww shorty - sorry to hear ... (and also ty to all the orgers who said kind words- didnt mean to steal any of shortys condolences ! lol)

i agree with alot of whats been said ... it is made tougher for myself and probably you (shorty) cause now the house is very empty ... and you dont have that good loud german shepherd bark ( to ward off people) ....

my GSD was Gretchen - i actually got her in Maine at Sukee Kennels (i think they still have a website)--- her dad was huge--- and a shutzhund as well as her mom ... she was 100 lb also--- but not at all fat ...

like u said - i wanted the classic GSD look--- wanted the saddle ... and the red and black (never understood why they call em red - when they are more blond) --- and she did turn out very good -- the only thing - like i commented earlier -- i think your major had a nicer mask than gretchen .... my wife actually likes the all black german shepherds .... but when i went up to sukee kennels they had 2 males there that were "breeding shepherds " that were like 1400. a dog !!! (and they were the pic of the litter so they were geourgous even at 8 - 10 weeks u could tell they were gonna be huge big scary male dogs !!! ) --- when i say scary - i also have to comment--- my gretchen did NOT have a mean bone in her body ... she would scare someone with her bark ... but basically lick them to death (after sniffing em down ) lol

I actually had gretchen flown down from Maine after she was born - probably 8-10 weeks ... it was my first dog --- and i really read up on the breed and trained her well (not perfect ) .... my only regret there was i didnt "leash train " her ... when i bought her i lived on a farmette ... so i loved to take her on walks through the woods , etc ... anyways ... i loved the foto of major and its always nice to see that someone else has interests other than a certain musician .... wink

I want to thank everyone again and again for all of your kind words and wishes...You all deeply touched my heart! hug rose

sukee kennel's in Maine huh? hmm...maybe I'll have to look that up. We're in NH, right next door to Maine and we are thinking about getting another GSD pretty quickly, but we might try to find one that needs a home, to save some cash, but we wouldn't want anything over 9 months or so only because we have a small child.
ohh our neighbor has a female shep named Gretchen. smile I love the standard look shep but...the all white and all black ones are nice looking too...they are just a nice looking dog no matter what color they are. smile
Major was big and "scary" but..wouldn't have hurt a soul.
Sounds likes you had a similar relationship with Gretchen as we had with Major, he would walk on a leash but..we never used it...loved to take walks in the woods, and through the feilds. He was a rock dog, didn't care for a ball or a chew toy...just a rock. smile He was our first dog and we did a lot of reading up on GSDs too prior to getting him. Anyway I could go on and on about major so if you want to PM me...go right ahead.

Again, Thanx to all! You've really helped me get through this. heart
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok
