I read somewhere, maybe 'The New Poop Monthly', that white dog shit was commonplace during the eighties (and 70's?) when a large proportion of owners provided their dogs with food that was high in bone-derived calcium. Since the practice of feeding animals bits of animals is now more restricted than it is for humans, particularly within the EU, the phenomenom of white turds is less common than it was when our generation were younger.

The problem is that brown dogshit outcompetes the white dogshit for food within our forests, especially in broadleaved woods.
Once brown dogshit becomes established, they rapidly start to outnumber the white dogshit and as the population grows, they eat more of the white dogshit's food. This is believed to reduce the white's chances of surviving the winter, breeding successfully, and young white's finding enough food. This eventually causes the white dogshit in that area to die out. In England, brown dogshit now outnumbers the endangered white dogshit by 66-1. Saving the white dogshit is one of the country's biggest conservation challenges.  | |
