MIGUELGOMEZ

THE MACHINIST

I rented this movie and liked it a lot. I didn't LOVE it. I really liked the ending though. At first I was thinking that it was just like any other movie. By the first 15 mintues I kind of knew what was going on. (I wont give it away) but I didn't know why. That's why I found the ending satisfying.

Christian Bale's weight change was phenomenol. It was painful to watch him walk around. Really incredible.

It's the record for the largest amount of weight loss for a movie role.
Apparently (for solids), he survived on a can of tuna, an apple and vit. supplements per day!

I didn't like it at all. The atmosphere was fake and the ending was predictable after ten minutes. I expected much of it though.

I liked it but I also wondered if it was really
necessary for a person to risk his health or even
his life by losing all that weight only to get a more
convincing performance. Actors are really desperate
for attention and recognition sometimes, aren´t they?

All in all, I quite liked the film.

According to the rumours he even wanted to lose another 20 lbs, but the director didn't want to take that risk.

It's all for their "art" smile Performing is their real passion. Just like (for example) a Formula 1 driver who takes to the tracks at crazy speeds, knowing full well the risks of injury/(sometimes) death are high. It's their profession and their "buzz" wink

But it's not really for attention, per se neutral Not everyone is prepared to go that far. Bobby De Niro famously gained over four stones for "Raging Bull", for authenticity and his dedication to his taught "Method" techniques.

lol

Dunno, I just can't see why this guy lost so much weight for a very average film. "21 grams" touches upon the same theme in a way, but is so much better. And Benicio could stay his fatty self!
