growing up I was called all sorts of names all through school mainly because I've always been a bigger girl and very short...in my adult life I've tried to put it all behind me though there are things and people you see that bring it all back

the first time i remember hearing the n-word was 2nd or 3rd grade, and while i was living in tennessee.

i went over to my friend jerry's house, where he lived with his grandmother. as we came in the door from playing she held out a candy dish which had those chocalate creme drop things that look like bon-bons.

"ya'll want a nigger toe?" she asked.

i was confused and asked what that meant. she said the n word several more times in her explanation.

disbelief

thank god i instinctually knew i hated that word, i dread to think i mighta grown up to be one of the people who owuld use it.

and i still can't eat those dame creme drp things, cause all i can think of is that freaky old bitch

We call them Negro Kisses! (negerzoentjes)

In Belgium is even worse : 'Negerinnentetten' (Negroboobs)

Although I never use the word 'Negro', I do use this word because it sounds so funny to me. Never meant to be dicriminating, but when I get to think about it...

although the dutch word for negro ('neger') is not meant to be discriminating, if you use it when you are in company of non-dutch speaking people (esp. english-speaking people) faces will frown.....people hear the N-word.

During the evaluation of my work placement last year, one of the persons that had to evaluate me described my 6 week efforts there as: 'she knows how to type and she looks good. That's all I can say.' omg We didn't get along very well, that was the main reason why he wasn't positive on my time there but still. And worst of all the other people there (like the teacher from my school that coached the whole proces) didn't really react to that. Like it's normal to make such an insult.
But that was last year. This year's work placement was excellent cool

Last summer, I was trying to put some weight on because I was rather on the extra-thin side (which I still am, but I thought I'd try...). I got myself up five pounds, and I was lying face down on N.'s (the ex) sofa one day. He walked in the room and said, "You really need to take those five pounds back off. You're getting a J. Lo ass and all of it seems to go to your thighs any way."

It was the first time I'd ever had someone tell me that there was something "extra" to me, and I didn't like it.

Then, same fellow, one time asked me to help him cook dinner. I came into the kitchen from studying for my chemistry midterm, and he asked me to cut up the head of lettuce for our salad. He handed me a large knife, and I went to chopping. Now, keep in mind, I've cooked for years, cut things, and all that, and even had been living and cooking on my own for awhile.

So, N. watches a minute, and then stops me, takes the knife from my hand, and says, "Frankly, I'm afraid you're going to cut yourself. Please, just stir the corn."

The more I thought about it, the more insulted I felt, and so I ended up putting the spoon down and saying, "You know, I'm not very bright. I'll probably BURN myself."

Both of those things sucked and have irked me and annoyed me to this day.
Insatiable taught me everything I know about balls.

Don't know, the negative connotation seems to live on in our language, doesn't it. As a girl, I was taught to never say 'neger' by my parents. I all depends on the person I guess. I know some black people who find 'neger' dicriminating, and other tell me they don't mind at all.

When I was in fifth grade a friend of mine called me a spaz on the bus one day when I was being goofy. We weren't fighting or anything, I was just being super silly and everyone was laughing and "spaz" came out of her mouth directed towards me.

It's the worst because for some reason I didn't want to appear that way, so from that day forward I was no longer the person I am/was. I instantly became withdrawn and distant from everyone, family included, and friends, that one included, wondered what happened to me to have me change so completely. No longer the funny girl cracking jokes, no longer the one making people laugh... anyway, to this day I'm still withdrawn and haven't completely worked my way past it.

*shrug*

Funny how silly things, or things being said in a moment of anger or on the fly can have such an effect on our entire being, when the comment probably didn't mean much to the one throwing it out there.

Good topic.
