Ex-Moderator | Power Outage!! My power is out! We had a CRAZY storm come through in the middle of the night and it woke me up about 4 am just in time to see the power go out. So I rounded up some candles and sat out on my porch to watch it for a bit before I went back to sleep. I woke up to still no power. I live in a basement apartment that doesn't get much natural light so it was quite a comical morning taking a shower in almost pitch dark, and putting on my make up out on my porch not to mention hunting for my keys carrying a candle around. Most of the traffic lights were out on my way to work. I've now heard most of South Mpls is out of power and it likely will be for at least a day. ee! How fun!
So tell me about your favorite power outage. |

I don't think so, it's moving east, I believe. At least all of our weather seems to. You should be ok. |

oh man... do we have the power outage stories ... happens bout 1-3 times a winter here sometimes 1/2 a day sometimes...once it was 6 days and snowed IN ...could not drive out or down our driveway
we pump our own spring water ...so no pump ... no water 3 adults ( plus my parents right down the hill ) and 5 kids only heat was the fireplace ( temps in the teens each 6 nights ) we cooked on coleman stoves ... metled snow for flushing toilets and washing up ( had gallon jugs of water for drinking ) drifts covered the cars it was ALOT of fun and a great learning expereince for the kids ... it was really nice though when the power came on ...cuz i could not sleep much worrying bout if all the babes were staying warm on the living room floor near the fireplace i love it ... like when we loose power for a night we light candles and play games by firelight ... no phones no TV no computer we stay prepared for them in winters and after that HUGE storm we bought a compressor so if its really bad again we can have alittle power

the power didn't go out here downtown--the storm woke me up at about 4 this morning. i was sittin in bed, watchin channel 4's weather coverage and thinkin that the power was gonna go out any moment.
ummm, a power outage story...i don't have any good ones. i remember back in '91 when i was still in des moines and we had an ice storm there one day and the power went out. my folks had to use these chintzy kerosene lamps for lighting and there was this huge-assed tree outside my bedroom window that had one of its branches fall on the lawn of the apartment building we lived in because of all the ice on it. i was scared that the branch by our living room window was gonna come crashin through.

We didn't lose any power down here in the Rochester area (as far as I know), but I woke up to the sound of hail hitting my house at around 5am.
The best power outtage story I have is when I was working at IBM. One of the computers there wasn't running properly, so the maintenance guy goes and gives it the good ol' CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot. Immediately after he simultaneously hit those three keys, the power in the whole plant went out. He stood there saying, "I did not just do that!"
