Youths

'Pesky kids always hanging around street corners up to no good'/'All I see is those pesky kids indoors playing computer games, why don't they go out and do something?'

Do you think youth/teenagers get an unfair rap these days? What are they supposed to do to occupy their time? Can they seemingly not win either way?

I think in general a few misguided teens who do bad things end up giving a bad rap to kids in general.

i dont know.

a lot of people say theres nothing for teenagers to do these days, but in my area there are lots of recreational clubs to join, ranging from music to art to boxing, dancing. trouble is, its not cool to join them. My eldest son is 12, and hes great at drama in school, but refuses to join the local group for teenagers because hed be embarrased. he refuses to join any group, calling them all boring.

yet, he hangs about of an evening moaning about being bored mad

i know i was a nightmare as a teenager, but it all stemmed from wanting to fit in.grew out of it pretty quickly and sorted myself out, but i do feel sorry for the presure teenage kids are under to act in a certain way to gain acceptance from their peers.

it just depends on the individual. i think, sadly, that plenty of them are unmotivated losers who want nothing more than to drink/do drugs and party. there's always exceptions though.

Ya know its all George Bush's fault for making the media liek it is today to brainwash kids and it finally seeped into the UK and made all the teenagers wacky with lots of problems but they actually find their life empty so they feel they are bored and have to go and immitate the crap they see on TV nod

A year or so back in time i voluntered as part of a crew on a tall ship (big mother sailing boat). We took 15 kids who were 'off the rails' (car thieves, house burgulars etc) and sailed for 7 days. From Southampton Uk to France. then back to the Uk via the islands in the english channel. Everybody on the ship had to be involved to make things happen. Sails to put up in storms, looking out for other ships at night so we dont crash etc. It took 3 days for 95% of the kids to transform from distant idiots to your loyal friend. Some were incredibly motivated once in the team environment. Some of these kids at the start of the week couldnt make a simple meal. We cooked 3 big meals a day. All meals made from scratch. Some of the kids didnt know what some of the vegtables were.

I hope this trip made a difference. But the environment these kids came from was just pure despair. And they had to go back. They dont like being punks. Its just a reation to not being loved and thinking they have no future in mainstream society.
