Only if I know the person personally and have spoken to them on the phone and really thought of them as a friend. Anyone else can kiss my ass really.

Depends.... If they come from someone who is a self loathing individual then no. I haven't the need to regard miserable peoples unkind behavior.

NO...BECAUSE EVERYBODY IN HERE TALK A O LOT OF TRASH(TIHS).
SOME PEOPLE--THOSE WHO THINK IT'S EVER THEIR PLACE TO CHANGE SOMEONE--WILL FIND NEW "FAULTS" WHEN OLD ONES GET "FIXED".

Words can sting and make one upset, no-doubt but as for hurting..that can only come from people or person you have feelings for be-it freind, family or love.
The trick of is to listen to what the person is saying and at times it's not what comes out of their mouth, and that is the most difficult thing to do.

They used to hurt me more, but now I'm getting a thicker skin and realizing that I don't know some of these people who say the hurtful shit. Couple that with some people are internet bullies that only say shit to impress their internet friends which is pathetic in itself.

Not me. I was raised that way. My mom is ultra religious, but she raised us to not be offended by words, but when i told her someone called me a faggot for the first time, and i told her it didn't bother me at all, she acted like it was supposed to . she can kiss my ass.

i dont understand the phrase "its only the internet" does that make it ok for people to intentionally say hurtful things to someone else just because they dont know them personally or they are not face to face? it being said or typed from a distance does not make the statement any less hurtful? i dont think so. just my opinion. i wasnt raised to be mean or to say things i know would hurt someone else.

agreed.

In one way, I see the point of not letting what random people say bother you. To another point, it can still hurt a bit, random stranger or not.

confuse I read the posts top to bottom and didn't see that phrase used once.
Are you just saying people use that phrase in general?

Yes, sometimes. I can be pretty sensitive to it, more than I should be.

Some folks are just so ridiculous I can't take anything they say seriously.

OK.

Unfortunately, because it is just the internet, and a person doesn't have to look you in the eye when they communicate, many take on these cyber-swagger personas (or the message-board menace types).

Generally when confronted in person, they'll cop to it being their internet-image that was doing all the talking.

wink

Yes. Even though it's just the internet, the words are typed by people. And this is a place a visit a lot, and seeing those words, or even knowing they're still here, saying things that hurt, I can't just ignore them.
