Will you think twice about wearing fur? How many animals it takes to make one coat? Here's your answer: http://www.strasbourgcuri...20luxe.htm How do they get the fur? Here's your answer: http://www.strasbourgcuri.../fourrure/ (not for the weak hearted) [Edited 6/4/05 21:54pm]

why no wool? they don't kill the sheep to get it, they just give them a hair cut when they get hot

why no wool? they don't kill the sheep to get it, they just give them a hair cut when they get hot it's not quite that simple. here's some information if you're interested: http://www.savethesheep.com/animals.asp [Edited 6/5/05 5:08am]

Ex-Moderator | I own a rabbit fur hat.
The thing is, I really didn't know it was real fur when I bought it. It's pink, for goodness sake and was actually an inexpensive hat. I assumed it was faux. I've never seen a pink rabbit. After wearing it a while I looked at the tag and discovered it was real. I still wear it, as, well, it's cute and I'd hate it to go to waste. I will now dilignently check my labels when I assume something is faux. A friend of mine had a similar moral dilemma. Her grandmother recently gave her a mink cape. And I must say, it is GORGEOUS. It's vintage, from the 40's and really is stunning. But since it was made so long ago and kept so well, she decided she, again, it shouldn't go to waste. |

PETA has a program where they give old fur items to the homeless... not a bad idea, i think. they will still serve a good purpose that way. and thank you for checking labels now!

I just want to make something clear.
I don't wear fur, I do wear leather, and I do wear wul. Those links were posted on another forum which I participate in, and though it might interest some of you. I'm not sure if this is the way it's done everywhere, but this one looks really sickening. I wear a leather jacket because I ride a motorcycle. this leather jacket saved my skin and life several times, and I'm thankful for the animals who sacrificed their lives to save mine

It is so mean to the plants and pretty flowers to use cellulose-based fabrics.
I think we should all just go naked.

I think eating meat and wearing leather and wool (after seeing those sites) is just as bad as wearing fur

Yes, I'm anticipating the same, as my mother has two pieces of fur (one mink and one fox), not to mention this fur rug we have (and for the life of me I couldn't tell you what animal it came from) and I'm expecting to inherit at least one of the three. They are all vintage and handed down throughout the generations. I used to be so obsessed with my mother's mink stole that my aunt found a little mink collar at a thrift store and gave it to me when I was about 7. I still have it to this day. While I do think giving fur to the homeless is a good idea, I myself would not participate just because these pieces of fur have been in my family for quite a while and mean an awful lot to my family members. I do think killing animals just for their fur is cruel. But I am guilty of being sucked into fur. I came very close to buying a green rabbit fur shawl over Christmas - but in my defense, I didn't BECAUSE it was made of rabbit, and I would have happily purchased it if it was not made of real fur. I just thought it was so damn funky. But Italy has these crazy fur stores with hundreds of coats made of every type of fur imaginable. I would go in and feel and admire every coat, though I would never buy one myself. I also wear leather and wool, though I do try to watch what kinds of food I buy. This might seem hypocritical - and I've done the research, I know what animal farms do, I've done the vegetarianism thing - but I believe that we do what we can do. I mean, like, where is the sun?
