The Benefits of Water Fasting

,

Full article: http://gaianstudies.org/a...s4.htm#TOP

Fasting is exceptionally beneficial in chronic cardiovascular disease and congestive heart failure, reducing triglycerides, atheromas, total cholesterol, and increasing HDL levels.

* Fasting has been found effective in the treatment of type II diabetes, often reversing the condition permanently.

* Because of its long term effects on metabolism, fat stores in the body, leptin, and disease conditions associated with obesity, fasting has been found to be one of the most effective treatments for obesity.

* A number of studies have found that fasting is beneficial in epilepsy, reducing the length, number, and severity of seizures. Fasting is especially effective for helping alleviate or cure childhood epilepsy.

* In a 1988 trial of 88 people with acute pancreatitis, fasting was found better than any other medical intervention. Neither nasogastric suction or cimetidine were found to produce as beneficial effects as those from fasting. Symptoms were relieved irrespective of the etiology of the disease.

* A number of studies have found that fasting is effective for treating both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Fasting induces significant antiinflammatory actions in the body and researchers found decreased ESR, arthralgia, pain, stiffness, and need for medication.

* Autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rosacea, chronic urticaria, and acute glomerulonephritis have all responded well to fasting.

* Severe toxic contamination has been shown to be significantly helped with fasting. Clinical trials have found that people poisoned with PCB experienced "dramatic" relief after 7-10 day fasts.

There are advocates of juice fasting, then there are advocates of water fasting.
I've not juice fasted before so I can speak to it. But with water fasting, your hunger subsides by the 3rd day.

I always visualize my "future state" while I'm on it and the hunger becomes less prominent.

YOu should not do strenous excercise if you undergo a water fast.
Especially on your first water fast.

This is becuase of toxitity that normal people have in the bodies due to modern living. Also, during the fast, your blood preasure drops dramatically, so you can experience lightheadedness from this when suddenly getting up or whatnot.

I normally do brisk walks during fasting, but avoid the gym or running.

My recommendation is that you do a 3-5 day fast on your first fast. If you experience side affects, stop swap over to juice fasting--which eliminates waste at a much slower pace. Water fasting very quickly gets rid of toxins, but becuase so many people are toxic, they experience side affects. The first time I tried, I felt drunk on my 3 and 4th days, then it came to past.

The last time I fasted, it lasted 10 days, and by the 10th day, my skin looked 10 years younger. I had dropped 15 pounds (most of it in fat loss), and I no longer craved bad food.

Each person experiences different things during a fast. I can post more links.

Hey, sexy momma.
Yes, I'm on another one. I started one about a month ago, but quit after a day becuase my boss was in town and I had to go to a lunch with her. Plus work was stressful.

I started this fast yesterday. So far, no real hunger that I can't brush aside. smile

so how do you prepare for a water fast? do you taper off what you eat or do you just jump right into it? links would be awesome - i'd totally give it a try, especially over the summer.

I had no choice the first time I did it.
I had sinusitus and nothing was working.
I got tired of hocking up phlem and coughing day in and day out.
This had gone on for well over a month.

In a certain depserate state I googled sinusitus and alternative treatments, and came across water fasting.

I tried it, and by the third day, my symptoms had decreased to tolerable levels. By the 7th day, it was completely gone.
It's been two years, and whenever I feel a cold coming on or I'm feeling sluggish, I fast and I always always come out of it feeling like a million bucks.

Actually yes.
But the rate at which you detoxify would be much slower.
Also, muscle breakdown would continue at a higher pace than a water fast.

On a water fast, by your third day, your body figures out how to get 98% of it's energy needs from fat and diseased tissue/foreign substances. On a juice/tea or water/honey fast it's not as effected--but still beneficial.

The point is to give your digestive track a rest, so your body can eliminate junk.

Cool! thumbs up! There's a compromise I could handle. I guess going for white tea with virtually no caffeine would be best?

I'm aiming for 10 days.
What happens is that your tongue turns white. There's a nasty coating on your tongue during a fast. As the fast prolongs the tongue will go back to it's naturaly color.

When it's pink again, you should stop the fast. Hunger normally comes back by then too.

The white coating is an indication that sulfar and I forget the other compound, is being expelled through the tongue (so brush the white residue off daily).

This also explains why people have bad breath when fasting--its becuase of elimination of nasty junk through the tongue and out your lungs. (as well as skin, and fecal matter if you have a bowel movement during the fast)

Trust me--there is ALOT of junk in each of us. And it's not dormant--it's doing damange just being there.

Absolutely not.

Your detox symptoms will also be more severe if you're a heavy smoker. Oddly enough, fasting helps curb addictions.

AsianBomb, won't fasting lower your metabolism and cause you to gain weight quickly -- the body recognizes that the calories are just not coming in and slows down to famine mode for conservation.

I've heard that people who lose weight through fasting, have this problem

Oprah did, remember?
