As a fellow writer, I must tell you that publishing is not easy. Do your research, get your hands on as many books about publishing as you can. Stop writing with numbers & short forms. Get someone that can proof read your material. If you are going to publish anything be sure that you copyright your material.Learn how to prepare a manuscript and book proposal. If you approach a publishing company, it is very likely you will need an agent.

The easiest way to publish and get a good feel of the industry is print on demand.

Even going through a National Vanity Press is cost effective, it's hard to even sell ten books in a year.

Last year alone, iuniverse published 25,000 titles I believe and out of those titles only 100 sold 500 copies within that year. The leading publishers were not that far behind though they may have several contracts in which they know they'll sell a million copies in a month's time.

These contracts may consist of someone like Bill Clinton, Paris Hilton, etc...Unfortunately, you have to basically kill someone, climb a 25-story crane and stay 56 hours, or become a runaway bride who stirs up the whole city to sell your work.

If you're thinking about making a living from writing, it's extremely difficult. Roughly 3% of individuals who publish are successful. Actually, I think the number is smaller than that.

I published my first Novel in 2001 and sold close to 5,000 copies in 5 months but I had to push that really hard. Without going to booksignings and hosting events, an unknown is better off just writing for his/her family and friends.

Between those years, I ended up publishing a second novel in 2004. By this time, I taught classes at a local college. It has been extremely difficult to even get myself geared up to market the second novel as I did the first. Alot of factors play a role especially your personal life.

You'll need first psychological support even if you're just publishing for fun. A writer wants to be heard. If you want to make a living, you'll need both psychological support as well as financial.

Towards the end, I ran out of both. It's crucial.

The way to do it is just have fun. Renew the faith you have in yourself daily. Never let that die.

My website: http://www.ccallentini.com/
...
Print-On-Demand Press: Go to www.iuniverse.com

They have several different programs you can publish under for a small fee. It's a nice deal. I did it for my poetry books.
