Who will take his place? I understand there is some confusion over who will assume that role. Well, as far as my wife tells it, were the King to step down or indeed die, the Queen would continue. Were she to follow the King, it would likely be the eldest daughter who would take over. The eldest son is a bit of a rogue and not seen as being suitable for being king. My wife also suggested I not post this as she could be sent to jail. Bless.

Jamming with jazz musician Benny Carter:
He's also played with Benny Goodman, met the other king, Elvis Presley, and written a number of jazz and blues pieces, one entitled "H.M. Blues". A cool monarch. By the way, Thailand has very interesting music and many brilliant musicians and composers, the King being one of them. "The Thai scale system is...extraordinary. It is not now pentatonic, though supposed to be derived originally from the Javanese system. The scale consists of seven notes which should by right be exactly equidistant from one another; that is, each step is a little less than a semitone and three-quarters. ... I just thought that the thrown was Patriarcle(spelling?) but appearently it isn't. The King comes from a long lineage of benevolant kings--the song would not be the proper candidate to complete that tradition according to what my mother says. So, I heard it was the daughter who would become Queen. I found that interesting becuase it seems a bit untraditional. Also, I thought that the priminister was postering for greater power. Thailand is an interesting place.

Thailand is an interesting place. The Prime Minister, Thaksin Chinawatra, is a crook. The government now has the look and early warning signs of a dictatorship. He's a canny man and an economist, but he's leading the country in a dangerous direction. He stimulates trade, makes tax breaks for foreign companies to bring money in but also exploit, among other things, the cheap labour here, when he should be encouraging Thai businesses, with subsidies if necessary, and raising the minimum wage in line with the rising living costs.
