outside in the woods all around my house

there are a gazillion fireflies



its like nature has laced the trees with a gazillion tiny christmas lights

i can't remember the last time i've seen or even if i've ever seen a firefly.

I've only seen fireflies a couple of times! I think the last time I saw them was about 15 years ago! We don't have them out in the bay area... I think I was in New Jersey (or was it Utah? I can't remember...it was a family trip somewhere)....I remember being totally amazed by those things! Can't you rub their little lights off and put them on your skin?

This is really fucking disgusting, but when I was about 6 years old I rubbed firefly guts on my shirt to make it glow.

When I lived near Lake Ontario we had lots of fireflies but I'm closer to the city now.
We still get a few but I think all the lawn spraying has killed a lot of them.

Thanks for clarifying about the "dark night" part...I had no idea that the darker it was, the more magnificant the fireflies would look.....

(btw: my flashlight works pretty well on darker nights too - no so well during the daytime though....)
