I've used it before, back when I had a cable modem.
I liked it, altho if you choose to become a 'seeder' it can slow your comp down a bit if you host a lot of seeds. If you do choose to use it, MAKE SURE YOU SCAN ANYTHING YOU DOWNLOAD FOR VIRUSES!!! Trust me on this!

I used Suprnova for a while, and that was ok. I use Limewire Pro at the moment and that seems decent for music files.

yeah, I love it. TorrentSpy is a good place and Bitlord. Most of the time I download whole albums rather than individual songs so it's better for that reason alone. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

That depends.
If your files are really large it is exponentially better than regular peer to peer. That is becuase bit torrent splits the file up among many different clients that share the burden of the download by using an algorythim(spelling?) to dice the bits up and send it to requesters. The more people downloading, the faster. I buy all my music files legit now. for the most part. Pay services are so quick and convienient, that I find it a hassle to download illegally unless it's something obscure that isn't available otherwise.

Would torrents work if you're on dial-up? Or do you NEED to be on broadband?

Just try this , it's great for downloading whole albums
(no bittorent tho' , but who needs em when there's this!) http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net (make sure to be connected to about 10 hubs) [Edited 5/29/05 19:42pm]

I can
Like i said , be sure your connected to at least 10/15 hubs and also you should share more than 10 GB , cause many hubs require at least that to be allowed to connect to them , some even require 50 or more ) Sometimes i download above 200Kb/s Nowhere else have i experienced that (of course it also depends the user you're downloading from , but still) (replying to AnckSuNamun) [Edited 5/29/05 19:53pm]

I LOVE IT! Am going to download Poirot next, as soon as I free up 7 gigs of space on my harddrive.

I haven't used it for almost a year now. It's alright if you're looking for a file that's shared by a lot of people, but those things I can usually find on Usenet as well.

try Bitcomet. It allows you to download individual files in most cases. So, for example, if you go to a site like Torrentspy.com and find an album you want, when you go to download the torrent for that album, Bitcomet will automatically allow you to choose which tracks from the album you want to download. The only time this doesn't work is when the album has been compressed into a single Rar or Zip file.
