WHY??? I was just channel flicking through all the Satelite TV Channels here in the UK and there is a Programme on Sky Travel called Holiday USA(or something like that, my minds gone blank now!!LOL). Anyway, I went 2 see the info on this programme and, lo and behold, its good old Florida!!!!! So this begs me 2 ask why do all the travel journalists(both on TV and in travel sections of newspapers), travel shows, travel documentaries, etc. always pinpoint Florida as the place 2 go in the USA????? And whenever I hear of people going on vacation 2 the USA and I ask them where they are going I always get Florida as the answer!!! If only all these people really knew the truth about Florida in that it has one of the highest crime rates in the whole of the country with drugs, murder, armed robberies, gang violence and now child sex offending!! Yet all these people all seem 2 flock there and its so widely promoted!!!!
Really, the only concept of the USA that the Brits have is either NYC, Florida, Washington DC, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and California as a whole!!!!! Come on, Brits, theres more 2 that beautiful country than just those places!! How about expanding your horizons a bit!!!!????? I have seen someof the most beautiful places on earth in the USA and they are not in these places and also I have literally travelled far off the beaten track 2 some of the most obscure places where no foreigner has ever been 2 and, particularly when we have stopped, directly they hear my British accent they look at me as if I am an alien from another planet!!! Either that or sheer fascination and I get asked about The Beatles, the Royal Family and tea!!! Come on Brits, explore that country more and I assure U, U will meet some totally fascinating people!!! Dont just make a beeline for Florida or NYC or LA or LV!!!!! [Edited 5/28/05 9:01am] [Edited 5/28/05 9:04am]

Isn't it the same with any other country? There are always a only handful of tourist locations. Big deal...

Yeah, but even as a tourist I would want 2 go where nobody else is going!! If I went 2 Florida and every other person I met was British I might as well have stayed at home and gone 2 one of our beaches here, of which I wont have 2 go far cos I live on the south coast of the UK and its a huge tourist destination!!
But then when we have travelled throughout the USA, I didnt travel as a tourist, cos I have lived there for 8 years!!! [Edited 5/28/05 9:20am]

The Moon is a pretty isolated place I hear...
...It's got some nice beaches....but the sea is a bit sparse... ....Not many folk have been there...there's no Brits there either... ....The night life is a bit quiet....but plenty of chance to observe nature and the stars... .....And the Sex.... ....Not sure about the job market though... ...but plenty of scope for new busineses:

Its all the tour operators faults really, cos they have these specific places in all their tour packages and they have schedules 2 keep 2, so really u cant deviate much from them, as really these Euro tours only last for, say 10 days or 2 weeks, so theres not much time for any sidetracking!! Thats one reason why I will never go on vacation as part of a tour!! [Edited 5/28/05 9:46am]

Some of my Fla pics:
I've been to many beaches- Fla has the best fine, white sand. It isn't there naturally, they ship it in by the truck full. Socks still got butt like a leather seat...

Also, I HAVE experienced REAL USA, not necessarily going 2 those specific places u mentioned, but I have been 2 Philly, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas and I have seen the bad sides of those cities!! In fact, I have lived near Minneapolis and that city doesnt just consist of only the Mall Of America and Prince, either!! A few years ago it was nicknamed "Murderopolis" because at that time there was more homicides per 10,000(or 100,000, I cant remember now) people than there was in NYC!!!

Phipps Plaza - Sophisticated shoppers give their credit cards a workout at these high-end specialty shops. Lord & Taylor, Parisian and Saks Fifth Avenue anchor the swanky stores at Phipps. Other favorites here are Bob Ellis Shoes, Jeffrey, Armani Exchange, Versace, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., Niketown and Discovery Channel. Lenox Square Mall - Atlanta's signature mall is a tourist attraction and a local's Saturday hangout. Lenox is anchored by Neiman Marcus and Rich's-Macy's and Bloomingdale's. It has all the basics--Gap, Ann Taylor, Nine West--and some not-so-basics like Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Cartier, Coach, Judith Leiber, Sephora and Versace Jeans Couture.
