Myrtle Beach is alright...it's tacky as all get out but I have been there about 400 times in my life so there must be something I like about it. There's a lot to do there (compared to Columbia where there is not much), I love the restaurants, and Broadway at the Beach (big retail area) is the bomb! Too many T-Shirt shops, horseshoe crab advertisements, and drunken slutty teenagers but if you get a condo on the quieter side, it's a real relaxing vacation. My 3 year old daughter loves it!
Places you must go if you go to the Beach: Gay Dolphin (retail outlet), Ripley's Museum (really trippy), Broadway at the Beach, Pavillion (roller coasters and other rides), ANY seafood buffet (they are good and pretty much all of them are the same), Waccamaw (you can get good cheap stuff there), Legends (if you want to see some really bad musical impersonators---including a Prince guy on some nights). Places to Avoid: Jimmy's Hibachi---long story. If you are not an old man like me and want to go get buck-wasted, there are tons of clubs but I am too old for that anymore. If you are really young and want to do the cool thing, drive up and down the main strip for several hours calling out to people you find attractive in the most obnoxious ways possible. And that's exactly why I liked it when I was a kid! We took a few family trips there from North Carolina. It's a fun little beach, and stopping at South of the Border en route was even more fun. | |
