I HAVE CONQUERED The Shei Kra (a Review)

So I finally rode the damned thing.
Here's my review:

As some of U know, the Shie Kra is the new Ride at Busch Garden's Tampa. It's a tower 200+ foot roller coaster that drops you down at a 90 degree angle. You are litterally facing the ground as you come flying down, then it whirls you through a large loop up to a second 130 foot 90 degree drop threw a tunnel.

I rode it 3 times today ( giggle ) and here's my review:

1. The ascent - awesome. The coaster sits 8 people across and the outer 4 seats are dangling past the edge of the support rail. The ascent is so steep that you're looking straight up at the sky before it finally docks at the top. This is when you see a panoramic view of Tampa Bay and the whole of Busch Gardens Theme park. All the other coasters look small from this high up vantage point.

The ride then faces you downward, but for a count of 5 to 7 seconds (I lost count as I counted faster the first time, and slower the next 2 times) you're facing downward in a suspended manner - grreat way to build anticipation.

It then releases you and that's when the screaming begins. It literally feels as if you're falling without any support. You then do an enormous loop before the coaster creasts on the second drop--it's at this point that the ride kind of falls apart for me as the second drop is alot of fun, but pales in comparision to the first. About the only thrilling thing abou the second drop is that it is also a 90 degree drorp at 130 feet threw a tunnel that makes you feel as if your head is being chopped off. But it's rather standard and the loop that it does after the tunnel drop is a sideways loop before desending again into water. People walking by the pond get soaked.

Overall it was alot of fun--but I only enjoyed the first drop. That was STILL worth waiting in line for, and I'll be visiting this park many times this year. smile
Ofcourse, my buddy's nearly crapped themselves on the ride. Some poeple need to get over their fear of heights. rolleyes

Cool!

Shame it didn't keep the momentum going after the first drop, but cool all the same.

Do they still have the Cobra there?

Do I have the wrong theme park then?

I could've sworn it was the Cobra. Maybe it was the Kumba. Is that the one with very tall loops?

Actually, it could've been in the UK. In fact, I've never been on a rollercoaster. I just wanted to belong. sad

Yes. Teacup rides and the like.

Alton Towers has some decent rollercoasters though. Haven't been there in over 5 years now so I don't what they have.

I'm a big fan of coasters. I have to add this to my list. So far my favorite is the Viper at Magic Mountain. It's not really scary. It just has lots of loops and drops. It's fun.
