Yes, although I'd probably use the word aloof rather than snobbish.
It's something I have to fight.

Pathetic attempt at snobbery. If I wanted to talk to a yellow painted testicle I would've stayed at the country club like everyone else.

No i'm not snobbish in the slightest
I accept people have different educations, different upbringings and different social Attitudes i don't think i'm better than anyone. But then again I've been working with what a friend of mine classed as "scum of the earth" for the last few months and i have come to realise even people who are classed as low on the social scale have things to give and are better at certain aspects of life. I try to focus on the things that make us similar rather than picking at the differences and feeling superior, but thats they way i am.

I am more of an intellectual snob.
But I do agree with fauxie, I'm very aloof and indifferent. That makes me out to look like a cold hearted bitch, but really, if you get to know me, I'm not. I just choose very carefully whom I show my soft side to.

snob [ snob ] (plural snobs)
noun 1. somebody who looks down on others: somebody who admires and cultivates relationships with those considered socially superior, and disdains those considered inferior 2. somebody who feels superior: somebody who looks down on people considered to have inferior knowledge or tastes [Mid-19th century. Origin unknown.] Word History Snob originally meant “shoemaker” (a sense that survives in places). Cambridge University students of the late 18th century adopted it as a slang term for a “townsman, someone not a member of the university,” and it seems to have been this usage that formed the basis in the 1830s for the emergence of the new general sense “member of the lower classes.” The modern sense “someone who apes social superiors” received a considerable boost when Thackeray used it in his Book of Snobs (1848). As for the origins of the word itself, the suggestion that it comes from s.nob. , short for Latin sine nobilitate “without nobility,” is ingenious but ignores the word’s early history.

I get that all the time, actually. I can't count the number of people who, once I've come to know them a bit, have said to me they thought I was really stuck up when they first met me, but realized later that wasn't true at all. I'm just quite shy in certain social situations. Doesn't mean I think I'm better than anyone else just cause I'm quiet or go off by myself sometimes. |
