Star wars VS Rocky I love them "rocky" movies. I love "star wars" too. But I give it to the "rocky" series though. Yeah u know rocky will win, but movies always inspire me like no other movies can. Star wars are great, episode 3 is superb, but alot of those movies have no depth. Thats the call for me. Rocky has more depth.

star wars has all kinds of depth. it's just that george lucas values plot over character so much, that the films sometimes come off as flat. but there's enough philosophy, spirituality, and mythology in the star wars movies to stun an ox. when you can get kids to sit through a monologue about the spiritual importance of detatchment, you're not exactly talking about a shallow movie.

I thought this was going to be about one of those "Alien VS Predator" type of films.

Nah. Both movies get ragged on by critics (unfairly) but not enough time is given in star wars to character development. Except for anakin in the new triology, so I did care about him. Obi wan is dull. palpatine (as I alrady stated on sticky) is a shit actor at times, samuel l's character is pretty standard, yoda still annoys me, anakins ms's is good in "attack of the clones", but in episode 3 she gets shoved aside (shame) The orginal triology I like hans solo, but luke is kinda annoying and darth shoulda been given more depth. The rocky movies deal with shit I have been through in one form or another rocky - underdog. So predictable now, but back then, stallone, and only stallone saw potential and wrote it himself (as he does all of them) rocky II- a dark movie. My personal fav of the series. Rocky has to come to terms witht he fact that his fame has not got him enough money unless he sells out to do commercials. But he cannot even read now as his eye is fucked up. He has to accept he cannot get a good job. rocky III- the hulk hogan fight is still funny. Rocky relaizes his manager Mickey has been carrying him for the last couple of years. Stallone feels cheated and then mickey dies and rocky feels he has lost his edge he once had. Mickey chose easy fights for rocky so rocky wouldn't get badly injured again. Rocky feels betrayed rocky iv- my least fav- enough said rocky v- I reviewed this on epinions.com (under sillysambrown). Most people hate this one. Rocky goes back to the streets after losing all his money. Now has to realize he has a kid and to stop fighting. He does. One scene where he has has a fictional flashback of mickey and himself training in the gym is heartbreaking. Beats anything star wars, depth wise has to offer. Stallone wrote them all and directed 2,3 and 4. So he and lucas are on equal scale there. Except that lucas' camera work is dull and uninpsired. Stallone shoots the fight scenes with alot of depth. Not even "ali" beat the amazing fight at the end of "rocky 2". Stallone invented the sequel aswell as a zillion sports movies that pale in comparison to "rocky". I know george has done so much more for movies as stallone has, but I still give it to Stallone and rocky. Stallone acts like a real human in those movies. The star wars actors don't give it much it seems, which Iam sure is lacas' fault.

What's this comparing of the "depth" of Star Wars and Rocky about? How can you compare those two movies at all?

Exactly. One is a drama/fiction and the other is science fiction. Different genres.

Exactly. One is a drama/fiction and the other is science fiction. Different genres. So. Both film series are family based films for kids ans adults. Both come under entertainment in this context. Both are sucsessful franchises and get ragged on by critics minus the first one or two. But fair enough

If you're talking about the originals and not the sequels, I'd say both have their merits.

The first 'Rocky' was a classic. It was downhill after that.

I used to think that too. But "rocky II" is surprisenly quite dark and gritty. I loved episode 3, but they just dont get me involved like stallone and rocky does.

I loved it when Rocky beat the shit out of Jar Jar Binks! When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

"a dragaon, a dragon, a real fire breathing dragon". No one beleived the old bugger saw a dragon. Rocky iv is a disgrace. Rocky takes on russia. At the time, that was stupid. Stallone plays his height up in "rocky 3" when he stands toe to toe with hulk hogan. I put a pic on the thread. Stallone got a sense of humour.
