Home alone, drinking Sang Som. Anyone else ever enjoyed this lethal beverage? It's a Thai rum, although they just call it whiskey. It matters not. What matters is that it does things to you if drunk in the appropriate quantity. I have a bucket full of ice and Sprite to mix it with. Aside from that, I am all alone, so forgive me if I start this thread in order to feel like I have company. I've been trying to write poetry all day but Thailand has dulled my brain. I have greater feel and instinctive understanding by living here, but it definitely dulls the areas concerned with creative writing and articulating your thoughts. Society demands that knowledge and understanding be articulated.

you don't have to articulate your knowledge and understanding.
it's just that everyone will think you're as thick as tar if you don't.

it's just that everyone will think you're as thick as tar if you don't. That's so true. Mutatis mutandis for the opposite. Any scholarly subject can be a cake walk with decent articulation and sublime padding out. Thank God for writing skills. Thailand is a beautiful country, but one where banality often pervades. It's hard to explain what I mean without carelessly damning a whole nation of people. It's infectuous and the daily preoccupation with (a) money, and (b) what you're going to have for lunch, is something that gets into your very being if you live here long enough. You should come out here Froggy. We'd have a blast.

I stayed up until 5am watching my soccer team win but had a nice nap this afternoon to make up for it. My wife has taken her sister down Khao San Road to have some fun this evening and I'm enjoying spending some time on the org and enjoying my Thai rum. Tomorrow my little nephew comes back and I hope he's ready for some kisses and cuddles because I've missed the little spud so much! He's such a sweetheart.

Will do. Yes, it's absolutely safe. Best places to visit are Bangkok, Chiang Mai and some of the islands. I'm hoping to take Mon down to Hua Hin for a long weekend in the next couple of weeks for some good seafood and to meet some friends of ours down there. There are so many beach resorts and islands to choose from and you can always decide to stay in either the lively or secluded part. Sometimes there's nothing better than a $5 a night bungalow and a private stretch of beach shared between 5 or 6 people. You get up at 7am and just lie in the warm shallows all by yourself.
